A little info on Jonah Williams

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

I've seen some people on here who strongly dislike Alabama lineman Jonah Williams and a few others who are big fans. I'm personally ambivalent on the idea, no dog in the fight.

This story, however, caught my attention.

Quote

Williams devised his own methods of tracking tape study, watching the defensive linemen he’s preparing to line up against, categorizing each move they make, and entering all the data into a spread sheet to help analyze what he can expect to see on game day.

Former Browns left tackle Joe Thomas took a look at the way Williams prepares and told ESPN it’s “genius,” and that Williams is far ahead of most young linemen mentally.

“It just shows you his level of preparation,” Thomas said. “It says a lot about the success he will have at the next level, because that is the type of preparation you need to have to be able to gain an advantage over your opponent. I wasn’t that advanced when I was in college.”

Williams shared a spreadsheet with Austin Gayle of Pro Football Focus, and it shows the simple way he distills a lot of information that he picks up from film study. It’s an impressive level of preparation from an impressive young player.

If he made it to 16, how would you feel about putting him at right tackle with Taylor Moton on the left?

I'd feel best about putting him at LG with Moton at LT and Daryl at RT. But, if we're really concerned with Daryl's ability to stay healthy, then I'd put Jonah at RT and Daryl at LG simply because I feel better about our ability to fill LG off the bench than I do RT and I don't want to have to ask a rookie to move positions mid-season.

If we get him or Burns, it’s a good pick either way. I’m partial to protecting cam, so I’m hoping Jonah is there, but what do we do if they are both there?

Honestly, I'd take Burns. I think Williams is a RT or OG in the NFL and pass rushers have a lot higher value than OG or RT.

If the top edge rushers are gone, I’d like Williams at 16. This year he could fill that hole at LG and give us a dominant line and could swing to tackle going forward if Williams walks which is likely.

    • The only thing I know is nfl red zone.
    • We put a ton of high draft capital into young WRs over the past few years. We drafted a WR in top 2 rounds of the draft in 4 out of the past 5 years. At some point, we need to rely on the dudes we drafted vs relying on veteran role players. That's the only way we're going to evolve as a team and take the next step to going back to winning again.  Remember when Cam lost KB and everyone thought it was the end of the universe? And 2015 happened.  Maybe losing Theilen and Coker will open some opportunities for some other guys to step up.
    • So apparently in the time between the end of the last football season, and now, a TON of streaming sites have been taken down. From what I remember most of these idiotic offiicial streaming services that offer NFL games don't ever offer ALL of the games. I remember subscribing to one service on youtube last season that cost hundreds of dollars and it would still constantly tell me games were either blacked out or unavailable, which is totally ridiculous. Is there any one service that I can watch ALL of the games on?? It gets on my everlasting nerves already that there's so many different streaming sites and they are all expensive as hell. I don't want to take out an entire additional car payment to subscribe to 4 different streaming services to watch all the games. Is there just ONE I can subscribe to? The most comprehensive thing I have access to now is Sirius XM. It's only 10 ish bucks a month and I can listen to the home or away broadcasts of any game. Only thing is I can't WATCH the games but this seriously comes in handy if I'm out doing something, driving, or can't stay still at the moment to watch the games. But usually I'm off on Sundays, so I mostly want to watch them.
