Broncos CB Chris Harris Has Requested Trade or New Contract

If I'm reading his contract correctly he is very tradable for the broncos with less than a million in cap hit. The problem really is what is the value of a 28 year old cb at $8M for one year?

If someone sees him as a pro bowler for the next 3 years and he agrees to a new deal, maybe a 4th?

He certainly fits a need. We are gonna be in nickel just as much as we are in 3-4 and 4-3 base defense and slot cornerback is a bigger hole for us than free safety. It would def allow us to focus strictly on d-line and o-line rounds 1 thru 3 with a safety tossed in somewhere.

He is great, both on the outside and in the nickel...  but two problems:

1) he excels in press/man primarily, not saying he isn't great in zone...  but, we have been a primarily zone defense.

2) he wants more money and that's why he wants a trade.

Would I be excited if we swung a deal?  Absolutely.  But it isn't happening.

I think if you bring a guy like him in, I'd like to think you start playing more man-to-man, but who knows.  It sure does get tiring seeing our dumba$$ DBs getting lost and leaving guys wide open because they're covering the wrong zone instead of having simple coverage assignments.

    • I think he's gone, and rightfully so, if he turns in another losing record. The "talented roster," regardless of how true or not, is a double-edged sword. If the roster is so much improved now from 202X then why are you still producing losing seasons? On one hand, maybe that's what needs to happen. Have the GM hire the new coach, and then have the new coach pick his guy to run his system. That is typically how it works in the NFL. Not the forced inheritance deal we have had in place.
    • Hinging on Brooks to be our spark...be good if it happens... but not holding my breath....RB next draft. Morgan gambled...it would be a 2 year payoff if thing happened.
    • Only way Canales is fired is if we are attrocious everywhere....  defense /special teams and offense..  There are enough "questions" on if BY9 is the guy that ownership wouldn't fire the coach for "just" mid qb play.  Especially with as talented a roster that has played "well enough" to win some tough football games and hang in there against the top tier of the NFL ...(mostly).   Now total team suckage..yeah .. but I don't see that happening.
