David Tepper Swabbing the deck

He was all about money.

And Tepper isn’t? He saw an opportunity to take a middling franchise in a part of the country with much growth potential and decided to role the dice. Tepper didn't buy the Panthers just because he could. He bought the Panthers because he saw a huge ROI. I for one am fine with that, I have no problems with people making money. However, we should call a spade a spade.

Won’t have a Panthers history without Jerry, unfortunately.

False. There was a demand. There were willing tax payers from the Carolinas. There were citizens willing to  pay for PSLs to support the stadium. When upgrades were needed and JR said fug no with his own money, there were Carolina tax payers that foot the bill and local politicians willing to push it through regardless of JR.

JR was merely a replaceable mouthpiece with business and customers and money his mind, nothing more. And those are plenty to go around, he was just local. There is a reasons practice was held in Wafford hell year after year, a horrible decision for the team but good business moves for ties sake. A worthless one. And I could go on. JRs worth showed, to a fault.

Gove the Carolinas credit, for the people here were much more substantial when discussing the reasons why the Panther actually exist.

It's a small thing and probably done on purpose most of the time, but seeing your insanely rich NFL owner wear t-shirts, jeans or shorts, and a pair of Nike's most of the time is pretty cool. Whether it's an act or not,, Tepper can play relatable really, really well.

Two ways to go about money. The easy route...drafting players to put butts in seats, keeping practice facilities in hell on earth due to ties and politics, to dodge paying for stadium upgrades while tax payers do it, to build a stadium through the public with PSLs, to combine your bojangles company with the Panthers to create revenue...I could go on and on...

Or the hard route. Build a winning franchise. Build a fan base and culture. Let the rest come to you.

No doubt JR wanted money and revenue first and foremost but he took the first route and I won’t blame him one bit. He was an old school business man and a losing team didn’t affect his business as much as everything I’ve already listed. It was only a PART os hi buisness not a make or break thing.

Tepper is new but I assume he’ll take the latter route. Winning or losing will be a major part of his plan to make money. In a sense, he has to. He has no ties or business endeavors here - and that’s a good thing, It’ll be harder, but more sustainable. And doing things like exposing BOA for events and ripping up the hell on earth known as wafford and puttinga state of art practice facility, on his own dime, makes a good case to start with and is something JR would NEVER do.

plenty of other examples if you want to see it, absolutely no difference in change of ownership of you don’t .

People hating on Jerry in this thread.  Give me a break, the dude brought the NFL to the Carolinas and you should appreciate that.  Whatever he had going on in the end had nothing to do with ya being grateful for his efforts to being a franchise to the Carolinas.  Someone else may have done the same thing if he didn’t, but he did so appreciate him for that much.

Impossible for one man to do that. Ignorant to think one man did that.

I appreciate the tax payers, demand and PSL owners of the Carolinas, who had much, MUCH more to do with it.

Wow. So the NFL was begging us to take a team, and all those people that owned imaginary PSLs decided that it was OK?

    • I would say that seems like an odd comment from Morgan, but at the same time it's almost impossible to find a college QB declaring for the draft to have less physical ability than BY so you can assume almost anyone you bring in would be your go to QB sneak/designed run guy.
    • Gronk is the best TE of all time, but he also played with Brady. Clarke was great, but had Peyton and in an era TE's didn't make crazy money. Kittle is great, but the two times he's made the SB, he was still on his rookie contract for one, and the other the 49ers had Purdy on a cheap rookie deal which help them build the rest of the roster. So again, it's not about not wanting an elite TE, of course it would be nice.  But realistically, in today's NFL, unless that elite TE with a top end TE salary is on a team with a GOAT level QB and/or other serious cap savings (i.e. key players on rookie deals), then I think it's not a good use of cap space.
    • This place was the poo pre tepper with tons of hilarious posters like phillyB. Joined in the 2000s during the 07 season and have been here bitching about this team since. but yeah its sadly been dying a slow death, every time I come to this site I am surprised its still up. I think the 2015 season was the absolute peak, the Panthers and this board especially just haven't "felt" the same since then. Igo should really sell the board since he clearly doesn't care anymore. Also, Reddit blows and the Bryce defenders on there need Jesus.
