Marty Hurney tried to trade up to get Greg Little as early as the No. 21 overall pick in the first round

I just don’t get this guy. What was he trying to trade? A 2nd and a 3rd or two? How does a modern GM believe that it’s possible to build a consistent winner by only drafting one or two starters a year? Most guys don’t have 10 year careers. You have to bring in more young talent than that.

It's concerning that he hasn't learned from his past mistakes.

The fact he didn't find a partner is a sign that he used restraint and wasn't offering something outrageous. This isn't a bad thing......

I think this is rational.  Whatever first round grade they had wasn’t a good enough grade to bet the farm.  I am not a fan of the trade up but I will not crucify him either.   If we have an anchor on the line for a while it will be worth it

5th year option

I kinda wish we didn't have that 5th year option on Shaq to have forced our hand. We would've either already signed him to an extension that would probably put his cap hit for this year at significantly less than his current nearly $10M or we would've let him walk and TD would be here for another year.

If we were completely sold on Shaq, he would've already been extended. That 5th year option really only helps you if you're dealing with a really good player at a premium position. QB, LT, WR, CB then yeah. Mediocre LB? Meh... I wish we didn't have that crutch. Make the call.

    • Actually, it's an age-old problem. Nobody wants to admit they were wrong & don't do anything to correct, thinking tomorrow will prove them right. The problem blew up to outer space levels as the internet expands with the problem reaches almost every facet of life as we know it. I recall the levels of hype preceding the Fitterer/Frank/Young combo that was going to rule the NFL for years. Hundreds of Huddle pages & thousands of posts over the past 3 years later, there are still posters who still point fingers, never admitting any failure on their part.
    • This is Canales second season. He has officially coached 1 season and 1 game. He made Bryce look decent for a bit. At some point, you have to cut bait with Bryce.  I think Morgan has been digging his way out of a hole forced on him to trade up in 2023 to get Bryce. Tepper wanted his guy, GM and coach be damned. That's on Tepper, not Morgan. Trying to work around that isn't easy and we still deal with the repurcussions.  I'd be fine keeping Canales if we do decide to move on from Bryce. I think he could be a great Head Coach, given a QB with the right measurables. Defensive development takes time and unfortunately we traded up to get Bryce when we had a roster unready for a rookie QB, and then we traded away assets that would have been used to build a core of talent.
    • Bryce played bad on Sunday. I understand a lot of teams have bad Week 1s so comparing a bad QB play across the league might make it look more normal. The issue with this is a lot of these other QBs have way more games of solid QB play so they are looking more like a typical week 1 outlier. Bryce doesn’t have that luxury right now. He can still turn it around but it needs to be done sooner vs later. He controls his own destiny this year.
