OTAs Day 2

A lot of us (myself included) have nothing against Torrey himself, but want to hold onto the $5 million he's due more than a mediocre receiver that used to be a good receiver. If he'd take a 80% pay cut, most of us would be all for giving him a shot a a roster spot.

That’s probably more of what I think. We have Hogan now and Godwin there too so what’s Torrey going to do,... even if he beat out all the others to be on the field as the 4th, he’s getting 1-2 catches a game.

therefore him taking a serious pay cut to stay makes all the sense.

We're also making assumptions that Godwin will beat out an NFL vet after a couple OTA practices

To be fair, I dont think people necessarily think Godwin will beat out Wright or Smith, for example.  They just think he will be close enough in ability that the price tag of either won't sit well.

Torrey Smith for 5 mil?  When Godwin can get the 1-2 catches a game for a fraction of the price tag.  The only thing Smith would offer is more depth in case of injury.

I agree totally with that. Godwin costs a ham sandwich and keeping him on keeps a team like the Patriots,.. cough cough from scooping him up to be Edelman’s replacement.

RE: Torrey

I think the team is giving him his due as a vet, right, or in this case, wrong.  He has been viewed as a mentor, locker room leader everywhere he's been, including here.  From all accounts, a great, stand up guy, which was evident in his defense of Cam after Kazee's cheapshot in Atlanta last season.  So, I think that he's just being given the chance to compete.

That being said, with the guys we have and brought in, I just don't see him making it out as one of the top 6 receivers, especially not at a 5 milion salary.  DJ, Samuel, Wright, Hogan, Robinson, and probably Ross or Godwin would be my guesses.

Deja vu. Last year, I suggested we get value from Funchess by trading him before the season started because we had promising receivers. Instead, we had our young talent sit the bench far too much so that Funchess and Torrey could plod up and down the field with minimal effectiveness.

Yet he has zero reasons to take a pay cut. Regardless of what the masses think.

I don’t get all the hate for Torrey Smith. I gather some don’t really care, but pile on to get approval from the group that doesn’t  want him.

the dude came on strong before he got hurt last year. I still say, and believe what you want... we started losing when he stopped playing, Cams shoulder held together until he stopped playing.

some guys are better for their good luck charms(2 teams Torrey finished with won Superbowls, got rid of him and went down the toilet,...) than anything else while others can have off the chart stats and their team loses— bad luck. It’s just true.

So Torrey is the reason Cam got hurt.

I see what you did there. Torrey goes from good luck charm to witch,...

we don’t need him any more

I remember the hype.

I also remember that preseason game where he was shredded and looked like a bad Colin Jones.

A Tennessee publication hyping a Tennessee player. I remember Gaulden receiving criticism. The biggest thing of note that he did was lay out Wright and get chewed out for it.
