Some factoids: Amtrak will be building a platform for the Raleigh line to drop off at the back of BOA

Last season the visiting team's owner(s) and dignitaries sat in JR's old box. Tepper was in a suite near the press box.

I like that light rail & Amtrak are finally installing stadium stops. They should've been there from the beginning. It will help ease traffic congestion around the stadium and help with the problem of parking as the close parking lots give way to development $$.

Amtrak didnt and doesnt go through downtown to have a stop there. They are rerouting it. They have bypassed downtown since 1962

The Southern Railway built the bypass in the 50’s as far as I know. Amtrak didn’t exist in 1962.

The current Amtrak station is a dump in a sketchy part of town. Hope this is a prelude to Gateway Station that they plan to build.

i live in ATL so this new platform is useless to me but as a rail advocate this is awesome.

I love the NC trains. I used to frequently do the daily run to Raleigh and back. Get there at 10:30-11am, get back here at 9-10pm. No driving, no screwing around with airports, lots of legroom, WiFi, just hang out with the laptop and get stuff done on the way up. Then bourbon parties with the New Yorkers coming down on the Carolinian in the evenings. But that CLT station has got to go. It would make a nice little freight depot, but that's about it. The little towns between here and Raleigh have far, far better stations. I'm actually a little embarrassed to recommend the trains to folks up there. And getting a train scheduled to ATL at a semi-decent hour would be nice too. Both of my kids went to GT and rode that train. There's nothing like hanging out behind the Wix filter plant in Gastonia waiting for the  2:30am Train to Georgia. I guess it gets you wired up to live in Midtown ATL anyhow. Let's hope the BOA station happens soon and displaces the current one.

Funny!

The reddit post is a ruse start-to-finish.  Approached properly one can an entire 18-hole golf course for "$2MM" -- it certainly doesn't cost that much to re-sod the field in Panthers Stadium.

My first thought as well.  That's too much money for sod.

Good luck getting there on time.

I travel to Raleigh ever two weeks for work and tried using Amtrak due to the fact it’s the same cost as a rental except I can work while riding. Every time the trip was supposed to take 3 hours (when driving was 2 1/2), we would always “stop” due to “issues”. What was a 3 hour train ride is now a 4 hour train ride.

I wouldn't take the train if I had to be some where on time if my life depended on it

Yeah it’s bad when kannapolis or Salisbury all have better stations than Charlotte. Charlottes is so extremely run down and old it’s embarrassing.

The Raleigh station looks like a damn airport compared to clt
