The question of Bradberry

top dawg

Recommended Posts

I thought his ball skills looks fine...kind of weird the article says that. His issues are coverage. Where he lines up and positions he takes.

He’s playing behind non existent front pressure as well. I believe the Panthers ranked 24th(?) in pressure. That’s hard for any CB.

He is not worth top money but solid money and he is needed on this team, unless he demands to be overpaid we’d be dumb to not resign him.

This is the debate for next off-season not this one. Hurney won't sign him long-term unless it is a good deal and he wants to lock him up before he has a really good year and ups his value. Otherwise we will wait until the off-season to extend him. So lets see how he does. For my money I think he is going to have a good year in this defense which I hope will be top 5 in points allowed which is the stat that really matters.

Let's see what Fewell can do with him. I expect him to have a good year and thrive in our system this year.

Yeah, I just keep forgetting about Fewell. He may turn out to be as important of an acquisition as any.

Bradberry is going to get a very lucrative deal. He is not elite, but he has established himself as a durable and effective starter, and has had some impressive performances against some top-tier NFL WRs.

Hes going to get $10M+ IMO. Hes a better player than Funchess relative to his peers.

Also, other than Chris Gamble and Josh Norman, he's the best corner we have drafted in the past 15 years. And Norman's career ultimately was somewhat flash-in-the-pan. He's already played more games for the Skins than for the Panthers.

We've had some other drafted and FA guys who played well in brief stretches over the last 15 years (Ricky Manning, Jr., Richard Marshall, Ken Lucas, Captain Munnerly, Bene Benewikeri)  but other than Gamble, who was an underrated staple at CB for years, it has been a revolving door.

And while Donte Jackson may prove to be just as good or better in time, right now Bradberry is the closest player we've had to Gamble.

I still think Gamble was better overall, but I hope we resign him to bring some stability to at least one of the CB spots

I just hope the contract doesn't go more than 13 million per. Top nickel backs are getting 10 million per now. The big issue is there is no replacement on the roster to fill "I got to cover that big mofo" role. Not to bring up old shiit, but no trade for Little or No QB 3rd comp... that would have been a great spot to draft some insurance. Justin Lane was there for the picking.

Our pass rush sucked last year.  This year, James and DJax are going to look much better.  We've got 2 good ones.  Need to draft one more next year to give us the aforementioned 3 for the modern pass-happy NFL.

This. Our entire secondary should look better this year by default. I don't know if he'll be top 10 or not, particularly since all those stats have to be taken with a grain of salt. What I know is that I observed Bradberry hold his own against the league's best receivers and QB's. That's good enough for me.

There's a good breakdown on this topic over at The Riot Report.  Essentially, you have a very good player with no replacement on the roster (far from a guarantee of a replacement outside the roster) and no depth at the position.

Good deal would probably be if he is snagged for less than $11.5M/year.

If we can extend him now for a rate that is based on his play last year, do it. He is solid and fits our defense. If not, wait till next year and do the same thing. If he wants pay above his play level, thank you and good bye. Thanks for the comp pick.

Write the check.  He's insanely valuable....to us.

Doesn't have to come off the field, can tackle, can cover the big guys that we have to battle in this division, has been playing off the receiver for a while now vs. bumping him, and is healthy.

Needs a deal this year.

No way! His play hasn't earned that. I would let him play out the season and revisit the situation. Somewhere between 7.5 and 9 mil seems about right.

    • Yeah not taking that Burns trade was infinitely stupid. We seem to be finally righting the ship but, imo, our biggest issue since Tepper bought the team has been coaches and management having a poor understanding of where our own roster is at. Starting with that idiot Rhule drinking his own kool-aid and thinking he was going to come and take the NFL by storm with Teddy freaking Bridgewater. Could have just kept Cam on the last year of his contract and gone from there but noooo that fat slob had to feel like he was the big man on campus. First round wizard Marty Hurney who, for whatever his faults, has a freaking HOF track record with first round picks, wants to trade up for Hebert but fat fug Rhule says no. Then we kept Rhule for 3 years which is absolutely unbelievable to me and every single year he treated our roster like it was just one player away trading our draft picks for Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield who have proven since leaving that Matt Rhule was an even bigger idiot of a coach than we thought. We finally seem to understand we are a ways off and trade CMC, but then we don’t take the actual good trade for Brian Burns who was never better than a run of the mill situational pass rusher. Then we botch the self scout of our OL (and team) after Wilks, even though they were bad before Wilks simplified the scheme, thinking they can execute whatever the hell Reich and Brown were trying to do. So we win a couple meaningless games playing dummy ball and Fitterer thinks we’re a player away again. And nobody even considers that having the slowest receiving corps imaginable with Damiere freaking Byrd, who can’t even make it to the season before being injured and cut, as your only hope for speed, coupled with the worst pass blocking OL I’ve ever seen, might lead to titanic levels of disaster. The way Canales and Morgan have been adamant about constantly bringing competition at every position has been refreshing and made a huge difference. I was kind of worried that we had fallen into our old ways leading up to the draft with all the talk of defense only and worried that they might feel the offense was set. Very glad to see they were not complacent on that. My big thing now is I’m still wondering why Evero is still here. I can’t think of a single player who has gotten better under him, and the Broncos defense got better once he left. We’ll see.
    • really good interview that gives some insight into their decision making process in making up the schedules and the issues they run into with so many people broadcasting games now. also some interesting discussion on what they have going on and where they might be heading in the international games. vikings have 2 of them, btw. we might be seeing more of that.
    • wow i absolutely LOVED watching that.   will watch again...and again...and again.
