I don't think we will see 11 DL/Edge players.  10 maybe but if we carry 11 that means we are going to be thin at other areas.  And being thin at QB (in your example) after the last 2 years we have seen from Cam's shoulder, might not be a good idea.

I dont think we go into the season with 6 WR. If we go with 6, I think godwin over robinson. Sounds like Godwin is not going to be an easy PS stash.

I agree--and if Smith does not have a good camp....

I think, with Cam's shoulder having not played a whole season, we have to keep 3 QBs.

Not sure how Obada fits---

Pretty sure Heinecke and Allen qualify for the PS, if we get to the 3rd QB depth isn't really going to matter.

I think we carry 6 receivers due to not having a returner come in to replace Byrd. Robinson is more proven as a receiver over Ross, and Godwin as a 7th rounder isn't guaranteed anything.

Not sure either of them will be worse than Grier. I think one of these two will be the backup. Grier will be the third stronger unless he really improves and the other of these two will be eligible for the PS. I would like to think Grier can be the backup but from what I have heard, he is not ready yet.

You are right it is way too early. Let's see how the QBs do before assuming we keep 2 QBs and Grier is the guy. Let's see how Newton does to see if he is 100%. Lots of good battles which will decide how our roster gets built this year.

I also think we keep 3 QB's. I like the little we saw from Allen, but I assume that the coaches weren't overly impressed or they wouldn't have gotton so hot and bothered by Grier. I predict (without a snap being taken in training camp) Heinicke getting the QB3 spot as more of a teacher role for Greir. He has 3 years with Norv.

Allen seems to play well but he is so small I doubt he can stay healthy. Heinicke has the size to play but didnt seem to click like Allen did. Both weren't ideal which is why we drafted Grier. Hopefully Cam is 100% and backup isn't a critical.position this season.

I don't see us hanging onto Butler & I don't think we roll with six receivers, but it wouldn't surprise me if we did.

Secondary scares the piss outta me, especially safety. Reid is the only good one. Gaulden has potential, but still needs work and Jones doesn't deserve a roster spot IMO. He's a below average safety and I never understood why we keep players solely for special teams. Most kickoffs result in touchbacks and most punts result in fair catches. I just don't see why he's needed. Get someone who can play both.

I could see us trading for a safety like Josh Jones or picking up someone who is cut at a number of positions.

I think we carry 6 WRs. If we're happy with what Cam's showing, we'll only roll with two QBs IMHO. I have three on here just in case.

    • It's not even a particularly nuanced opinion, yet it seems out of reach for so many.
    • I don’t think he can be great. For me he tops out as starter maybe make the playoffs, stuff like that. I would have been okay with that kind of player as a placeholder but you don’t invest the time and assets we did and be happy with that.  On the cure,If a guy has mechanical flaws but otherwise is enticing, you let someone else make the mistake of taking him in the top of the 1st. If he doesn’t get taken you can pick him up 2nd or 3rd day and try to develop him (off the bench not starting).  The risk/reward with Bryce was horribly misjudged. I didn’t want to trade like that in the first place because I didn’t see the generation talent that justifies that type of move, but once it was done CJ was the better gamble. No doubt.
    • That's what I mean. If you claim to possess some super knowledge about the QB position from a previous non-football but football related job, wouldn't you want to expound upon that to support this "everyone doesn't know anything about being a QB" thesis? The rest is just summed up by stating that there are a lot of variables to a QB being successful. Yeah....I mean that isn't earth shattering.  While there is certainly a lot of luck involved in all manners of success, consistent success with the variables around you also changing on a regular basis is usually fairly conclusive.  Is Trent Dilfer the same as Tom Brady? Is Nick Foles the same as Patrick Mahomes? I supposed based on the OP's arguments, they are. That's not really the way it turned out, however.  The NFL isn't unlike most other jobs or even other sports. The cream typically does rise to the top on a more consistent basis. Is it accidental that premier poker players seem to win or perform very well on a consistent basis, give that any individual hand is largely luck?
