Samuel has been great. Samuel is a valuable piece.

DJ Moore is the clear cut #1. That’s how dominant he has been in his routes and his unreal hands. The man drops nothing.

Samuel is Ted Ginn with testicles.

Not doubting that.  But many writers among other people have stated that Samuel is the best route runner out them even over Moore.

And Samuel to Ginn is jist unfair, only comparison between the 2 is their 4.3 speed and going to ohio state.   Ginns hands were no where close to what Samuels are

Moore is my #1 thus far.

OK: Samuel will be used much like Ginn was used in 2015. With testicles. And hands.

Yes: Samuel has grown a ton in terms of routes. He’s had an amazing camp. Moore has just been a shade better, IMO. He’s had one of the most dominant camps I’ve ever seen from a wide out here.

Smith and Hogan are very solid 4th and 5th options as well. We have more talent than I can ever remember our team having. Smith or Hogan would be the best WR on the team if it were 2015

Maybe 2017 too... especially at the end of the season... Cam led a comeback against the Bucs with Kaelin Clay and Brentin Bersin

At this point, its still only potential.  But the potential is interesting.  If the potential is fulfilled, we would have our best group of receivers since 2003/04.

And much like 2003, this group is really being slept on... nobody at all thought Moose, Smitty, and Proehl were going to be one of the best WR corps in the league that year (including me if I'm honest).

This year's group isn't getting the recognition yet b/c the other teams in the division have well-established #1 WR's (and solid to elite WR groups overall), but I feel like this group can match up with any of them.  Time will tell, of course, but it has been a LONG time since the Panthers have successfully drafted quality starting-caliber receivers.

This entire training camp has a 2003 feel to it. Some key veteran pieces coming in. Great vibes all around. No bitching. Players are practicing hard. Great individual coaching going on. Ron is right there in the mix with the linebackers every day

I mean, it could totally end up being a shitshow, but I don’t think it will be. You can just feel it sometimes.

Plus, there’s a whole lotta talent on the roster. It’s deep.

Yeah, it really is splitting hairs at this point. Both are great options and both will be utilized in ways that transcend the whole “number one” label.

Smitty became our #1 WR, but people forget how dominant Moose could be also.  He led the league in TD's in 2004 after Smitty went down.  I still wonder what could have been had we had Smitty and Moose together and healthy from 2004-2007, especially in 2005.  We might could have won the SB if we only had 1 other dependable weapon besides Smitty.

It's also crazy that we had the league leader in TD's (and both all-Pro's) in both the 2003 & 2004 seasons.

Really makes you realize how bad our WR's have been (other than Smitty and Moose in 2008) for the past decade plus.

When Ted Ginn is arguably the best WR we have had other than Smitty over the past 10 years, that says it all.

    • I think they are holding back to see what they have in the young guys, but I think it's a near certainty at some point they will bring someone else in. Right now (assuming we keep 5 CBs which is normal), the top 5 IMO are: 1) Jaycee Horn 2) Mike Jackson 3) Chau Smith-Wade 4) Shemar Bartholomew  5) Akayleb Evans   Obviously Jaycee is the alpha in that room and paid as such. Need him to stay healthy and continue to play at a Pro-Bowl level. Mike Jack did pretty well all things considered last year, and they gave him lower-level starter money. Fair deal for both sides.  Smith-Wade showed some promise as a slot CB. I think low-key he's a lock for the team. Different size and skill set than the other CBs. Shemar Bartholomew was the most sought after waiver claim last preseason. Was 5th CB most and inactive most of last year. Had a few defensive and ST snaps. Nothing of note good or bad but too small a sample size to make any judgment. Akayleb Evans was a 2022 4th Rounder for the Vikings. Has started 19 games (including Week 18 for the Panthers) in his career and played in 43. Was pretty good in 2023 before getting injured and falling down the depth chart last year. There's some other guys on the outside looking in, but until they show more in training camp I dont see anyway they make the 53. And only Jaycee, Mike Jack, and Smith-Wade are locks to make this roster IMO.
    • Was just reading the Ask the Old Guy story on the team's website and was shocked to see that only two 2nd Rounders have signed so far, 30 of them haven't. That isn't normal, the Texans really screwed things up for the rest of the league, no other explanation that I can think of for 30 of the 32 picks to still be unsigned at this point.
    • They need to address CB before season starts. This is not going to cut it.
