Another sign Cam won’t play Sunday?

Was looking at the Vegas betting lines and they took the Panthers vs Cards off. I’m not an expert at this stuff but I’m thinking that’s a sign they figure Cam isn’t playing. Anyone with knowledge about betting let me know.

Means they don't know if he's playing. Once it's confirmed one way or another, odds will go back up.

NFL Media's Ian Rapoport reports Cam Newton is in a walking boot and is "trending" towards not playing Week 3.

Kyle Allen is shaping up as the Panthers' starting quarterback this week against the Cardinals. Rapoport was told Newton needed to practice on Wednesday to start this weekend and that did not happen. The extent of Newton's foot injury is unknown, but it has been described as a re-aggravation of his preseason injury. With the way he played through his foot injury in Week 2, rest was almost mandatory.

It came off as soon as it was apparent there was an injury and won’t put it back up until there is more clarity. Happens with every QB situation like this with a couple exceptions like the if the Jets were deciding between Luke Falk and whoever else they might play.

The reality at this point is that Cam ain't cool with Norv Turners playbook.

Look at his press conference before the Tampa game & how sarcastic he was while saying " Hback this & Hback that" he was smiling but you can tell from how he was looking that he's picked apart the playbook and may be a bit bitter because he's not getting the ball calls.

THEN his press conference after the game....more tongue & cheek displeasure with how the offense is going. It just doesn't seem to be a good fit for him and he is obviously frustrated. To better his shoulder..and NOT go out there and get killed by the offensive line OR have to deal with him not being "Superman".... it appears that he would just rather not play at all.

So what better excuse than the foot? ...I think he will find more reasons throughout the year not to play if he could.

There may be a lot of truth to this, but I don't think any of us want to really speak to it or consider it without more evidence.

I noticed it last year...The exciting plays were the misdirections and reverses with Samuels. Exciting for Cam because he got to block. But he has vocally voiced the fact recently that we can't score touchdowns or not scoring touchdowns. Cam has been brutally honest about HIS performance as well as the offense....don't see him blaming Ron. BUT looks as if Cam wants a " Break from the Norv".

Cam Newton has had his struggles no doubt. Opinions clearly vary regarding his status and future. Time waits for no man. We know the possibilities. It's been argued into oblivion.

But getting down to the cold hard truth is the fact that if the Panthers fall to the Cardinals on Sunday they will be 7-12 under Norv Turner as offensive coordinator. That simply isn't good no matter who the starting QB is. Especially after what transpired with Shula. Panthers fans have seen this before.

This upcoming game has huge ramifications for the franchise. How fitting it is against the Cardinals, and in Arizona.

So Rivera did learn from last year. Don't let your guy not practice every week and then play on Sunday.

    • I don't think it was fear of the unknown because he tried to hide the extent of the injuries that made him drop. After the drop, the reports I heard were that teams knew what was wrong with his knee and it was something similar to another athlete from a few years ago (honestly don't remember if it was even a football player).  That it was basically one of those things where he should be fine for a while, there isn't a huge concern of immediate injury risk.   But what he has going on with his knee is something that is degenerative and there's little chance he'll be able to play more than 5 or so years on it before he won't be able to play anymore. So basically it was teams knowing if they draft him, he's probably going to be only a rookie contract player and even if he's great, you might not be able to get use out of him on a second contract.  Which in turn makes the drop make sense, but I'm kinda surprised some contending team didn't take him late in the 1st, hoping he'd put them over the top on a SB run but then not even have to worry about giving him a big contract in 4 years too.
    • Depends if they see the writing on the wall with their roster and contracts and decide to bite the bullet and begin a complete rebuild and roster overhaul.  I have no clue why some franchises (IE us) refuse to do this and keep half assing trying to win 8 games or so.  Do it correctly, take your lumps and build a contender.  We shall see what loomis decides.
    • Each team plays 17 games.  I do not see why they don't just have each team play one international game per year.  Neutral site game, 8 home, 8 away.
