Mario Addison on pace for 21 sacks

And you hardly hear a peep about this guy.  Just felt like starting an appreciation thread for one of the most underrated players in the league that has been nothing but consistent and professional during his time here.  It’s hard as hell to crack 20 sacks, and he might not, but he’s having a hell of a year.  Very real chance for him to set our all time season sack record this year.

Greatly appreciate the sentiment of the thread. Addison is a guy who flies under the radar a lot because he’s not flashy. Notional media never mentions him, local media seems to only in passing. Jacks oline yesterday was successful largely in containing what had been our white hot pass rush, yet super Mario found a way to generate that strip sack that Burns ran in for the TD. Those points were the difference on the scoreboard.

At 32, Addison may have been the quickest DE on the roster until Burns and Obada arrived.

As an undrafted FA, Addison bounced around to 3 different teams before joining the Panthers in 2012. He's now 4th on the Carolina all-time sack list with 45.5, passing Kevin Greene this season. He'll probably reach Rucker's 55.5 this season as well and become #3 on the Panther all-time list.

OP is correct, one of the most underappreciated players on this roster.

He gave Jourdan Rodrigue a great line while describing a play where he was chasing Minshew.

“I know when I was running after him one time, I saw his mustache fall off and run the other way,” joked Addison. “So I went for the mustache while he kept running away. I had to re-direct.”

Couldn’t be a better person to break that record. I think he’s under contract for next year and he’s getting up there in age. Although he seems to be getting better with age so a nice two year extension would be great if it doesn’t seem like he’s slowing down.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
