Person: Possible "Tug of War" coming

Definitely interesting. Tug of war possibilities:

1. Cam and his people vs. the coaching staff (if Cam thinks he’s back to 100% and Ron wants to drag it out to avoid the tough decision and keep playing Kyle)

2. Tepper vs. coaching staff (Ron wants to go back to Cam, Tepper wants to see what he has for the future and doesn’t trust Cam’s health)

3. (unlikely) Hurney vs. Ron (could be possible as someone else suggested that Hurney wants Cam and Ron wants Allen but I don’t think that Hurney has any real say in the matter so this is unlikely and Ron would go with who he wants)

4. Kyle vs. Cam (meaning by their play on the field, or the risk/reward between them. If Cam starts practicing and is “100%” but doesn’t look amazing in practice while Kyle keeps up has play, that’s a lot different than Cam coming into practice dropping dimes)

I think the most likely is number 1 to be honest.

You know, I hadn't thought of this till now, but something to think about with regard to Option 1.

The Panthers have been extremely tight-lipped about the situation, with Rivera giving what's some have been calling "scripted answers".

Within those answers, there's a lot of talk about "patience" and "not rushing", which fits into the beat reporters' belief that the Panthers will "slow play" this.

Then on the flipside, you have the tweet from Schefter about Newton being ready to go. That was attributed to "a league source", which nine times out of ten equates to somebody's agent.

And now Person alludes to a possible tug of war.

Okay

Don't know if it means anything, but it does fall under the category of "things that make you go hmmm".

Yeah it’s pretty damn likely that Schefter’s source was not from the team, but from Cam’s group.

The tug of war is between Hurney and Rivera

Hurney has always liked Cam Newton, he took a big risk drafting him at #1 and feels an attachment to his draft pick

Ron Rivera has always been an anti-cam guy, "I'd have taken a shot"/benched him for not wearing a tie

Straight past Trolling to the Walt Disney School of Fiction? This is so sad.

RR was the one who chose Cam. Hurney wasn’t in Auburn at his Pro Day. As is plainly stated in the article(you know an actual statement or two that helps show you not just lying) Rivera was convinced before Hurney had ever seen Cam in person. And according to AU coaches, Shula was in his corner and pounding the table before Pro Day.

  https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/page/hotread-CamNewton/cam-newton-fast-start-erases-doubts-ability

Rivera also recalled when he saw Newton before his pro day. As the coach sat in the stands, he watched as players gravitated toward Newton. Rivera knew that natural-born jerks didn't draw people to them like that, and his instincts were affirmed in pre-draft meetings.

Rivera also recalled when he saw Neh.  I asked Mike [Shula] why we should take Cam, he mentioned everything the kid had gone through," Rivera said, "He'd transferred from Florida, gone to junior college, and won the Heisman and national championship at Auburn. Mike said that through all that, the kid never broke down. If Cam could do that, he could handle being the No. 1 pick." pro day.do that, he could handle being the No. 1 pick."

That's not really what he's saying.

I was talking to Person.

Did you not state that you were not sure what he meant?  Seems it is subject to interpretation, but I want to hear your point--I was thinking the QB battle all along---but tug of war is a bad metaphor for that.   I have been busy and maybe skimmed over the obvious.  Enlighten me. #4 was an option.  Pulling, as one does in a tug of war, is not a vivid picture.  But Joe spikes his hair at age 45.

In the context of the Q&A, he wasn't talking about the position battle itself. It was a "tug of war" over when/if Newton is reinserted into the lineup.

Allen and Newton aren't the ones who make that decision so the tug-of-war can't really be between them.

1.One shoulder injury...this isn't a oh he hurt it again.... it never healed or maybe he didnt sit out the two years like luck did. Same injury just takes a very long time to heal.

2. Daryl William's at left tackle in the preason was when the foot was injured. Like literally the first preason game probably the first drive. And it's a foot.. you cant get more fragile(unless you got whatever Olsen has going on) in your foot just like you cant build up more muscle to protect a foot. It was a more a coincidence and bad blocking than cam being more injury prone.

(unless you got whatever Olsen has going on)

Wow, your obsession with Cam has no barriers

    • Saw this show up in my new feed. Nice to see a couple of our rookies making it into the top 5 so far, even if it is a pff measure... From https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-top-15-rookies-week-9-2025 ... 4. TE Mitchell Evans, Carolina Panthers (78.7) Evans struggled in the Panthers’ tight win over the Packers, finishing with a 41.8 PFF overall grade — third worst among tight ends this week. He was not targeted in the game and played only one snap in pass protection. He did log 15 run-blocking snaps, and although he earned a 68.9 PFF run-blocking grade in zone looks (seven snaps), his 39.0 mark in gap schemes (second worst for the week) dragged him down to a 46.6 PFF run-blocking grade overall — sixth worst for the week. Despite seeing zero targets over his past two games, Evans still leads the Carolina tight end group with a 74.3 PFF receiving grade. He has caught all nine of his targets for 90 yards, six first downs and two touchdowns. Evans also leads the Panthers’ tight end group in PFF run-blocking grade (72.2). He has recorded a 20.5% positive play rate across 175 snaps.  5. WR Tetairoa McMillan, Carolina Panthers (78.6) McMillan had a better day against the Packers, recording four catches for 46 yards. Most of that production came in the first quarter via two 16-yard catches — one of which he snatched from Carrington Valentine’s hands, who was in perfect position to break up the pass. McMillan accounted for three first downs on the day, although Green Bay was able to limit his impact after the catch, holding him to 0.8 yards after the catch per reception. McMillan now has 41 catches for 558 yards — a top-15 mark. He is also tied for second with 19 explosive gains of 15-plus yards. Three of McMillan’s catches against the Packers came between the numbers, bringing him to 22 for 318 yards and 19 first downs (tied for second most) this season. He owns a 26.1% threat rate and a 76.6 PFF receiving grade between the numbers. He also ranks in the top 10 in explosive gains (10) and yards after the catch per reception (5.5) within that area of the field.
    • At least we don't need to hear overreacting about towels ...
    • Actually there is, try being a Charlotte Hornets fan. I mean the team fuging moved at its peak and hasn't recovered since and that was 25 years ago
