I wish Rivera wouldn't have stated that so early. Could have given the 49ers something else to prepare for and think about.

It wouldn't have been believable given that he's not even fully practicing again.

That's a card you might be able to start playing next week...maybe.

If he has to get surgery, in part because he didn't come clean about the extent of his injury week 1-2, the front office should be furious.

Lol

come on man  if anyone should be furious, it is Newton for being the company guy for ole Ron...year after year of personal and OC incompetence

I’ll say this ... if your head coach  and GM, who are at every practice, don’t see a guy is hurt, they shouldn’t have a job

You think Brees didn’t/doesn’t want to play...they know the longer they are out the greater the chance they are replaced.  Isnt a pro alive who doesnt do the same

If you don’t like Newton, ok, but don’t be ridiculous

[This following isn't threadworthy. I can't verify the veracity of it. And I don't claim to be a reporter. But it's been on my mind and I feel like sharing it somewhere. So read with with a grain of salt. Or don't. I don't care:]

I ended up having a conversation over the weekend with a person whose parents use the same "fish guy" as Cam Newton (I know, I know. But literally 80% of people in here with no credentials are pontificating over his health, and Web MD-ing the recovery period for a Lisfranc, so you really gonna point fingers?) The gist of it was, Cam's injury was more serious than is being let on, he's interested in spending more time with his family, he's young with lots of cash, and suggested he may be considering pulling an Andrew Luck. The person I talked to was confident he'd played his last snap as a Panther.

[Again, this is a third-hand account! I don't know how much truth, if any is in it. But it is interesting considering this Monday announcement when everyone was speculating he'd be back after the bye. I guess we'll just wait and see.]

IF this turns out to be true ... and who knows ... I will miss Cam and all the fun he brought to the game, BUT I would be happy for him if he can get out with his health intact. I blame the NFL for trying to bring him down by the no-calls over the years.

If he announced this on Monday Cam maybe more hurt than we thought

Maybe some people, but I didn’t expect him to be back until the end of the season. That’s normal for his kind of injury. I am not sure what the people thinking he’d be back in 3-5 weeks are thinking honestly.

I’m not making fun of your story or anything nor am I doubting you were told this and I fully recognize the many disclaimers you attached.

But it amuses to me to no end that Cam’s “fish guy” is the source.

To be honest it wouldn't completely shock me if this was true, but Cam is vegan now so I suspect he no longer has a "fish guy" so I do have to cast some doubt on it based on that alone.

Vegan fish is trendy these days.
