The most embarrassing thing about this loss

run defense has been bad all season long

we're literally 27th in the league in avg rushing yards allowed per game  at 135 per contest. It's a problem that's been apparent well beyond this one game.

This.

I seriously question the 3-4 defense when almost everyone the Panthers have faced ran the ball between the tackles with little to no opposition.

51 points.

38 rushes.

I'd leave the points out of it.  It diminishes the point when you factor our offense's numerous contributions to that.  232 yards, over 6 yards per carry, 5 TDs (3 of which 20+ yards and a 4th one 19 yards)) all hit home a lot harder.

I think what he's saying is that it's embarrassing how little effort it took to score that many points.

And he's right.

Someone can tell me if I'm wrong, but I believe the Panthers started the game playing 4-3 and used that as their standard package in early downs.

This notion that the Panthers have changed their defense to a 3-4 is maddening. They really haven't. It's been a modified nickel, at times, sometimes a 4-3 and occasionally a dime package. I think I can count on one hand the number of times they've really been in a true 3-4 alignment.

51 points is a lot. 38 carries is a lot. They got three drives with good field position from INT’s. One of those was an interception down 21 in a 3rd and 12. He had a shallow cross available underneath, and nothing else. Maybe the seven route to Olsen, MAYBE. The dagger route was never working, and the pressure impacted the throw. At least that’s what Richard Sherman said, and he knows what he’s talking about.

So in that situation, sure, they could’ve punted. Down by 21, with 19 minutes to play. Might have helped.

But for the sake of argument, let’s take three touchdowns off the board.

It’s still a 30-13 win.

The 49ers were playing with a unmistakable fire from the very first snap. When your vaunted defense is surrendering record offensive performances like their giving out free candy there's something else going on.

I hadn't seen this. Why on earth would Irvin say something like that the day before the game?

Wasn’t it Coleman that shredded us last year with ATL? I haven’t watched yesterday’s game, however the last time we got shredded Coleman just kept moving laterally until a backside crease opened up. That’s how I’d play this defense if I’m any team in the NFL

It was as much Shanahan as it was Coleman, arguably more.

Calling myself out here a little bit, I did say in the tweet that Carolina was stronger on the edge this year. I honestly didn’t see this kind of gash fest coming. I thought they could do some things, but I figured the run defense would hold it down better than that. This was the first real test they had in terms of a team that would commit all the way to the running game. Hell, the Texans ran the ball like six times in the second half of that close game. That was a gift.
