Game Film...

This was a bad one. I’m all for moving onto the next one, but this is not one where you can just burn the tape. I’m definitely going to take my time this week and look closely at what happened on tape. This wasn’t a “oh well, sh*t happens” type of game.

I frequently watch games twice, though for games that turn out like this, I'll make an exception.

Of course, this isn't my job.

As far as professional coaches, I've never been a big fan of the whole "eeehh, let's just throw that tape out and never watch it again" idea. If this is your job, you should have to rewatch every... painful... little... moment...

Repeatedly!

They need to study the film at length.  This is a good defense but we cant stop the run right now and I doubt we can win without correcting that.  Plus, we got behind a few scores and thats disaster with an inexperienced QB and suspect OL.  Especially against a great DL.

The Niners are good but if someone slows down that running game and makes Garop and those WRs beat them they can be in trouble.  Kittle is a problem for any defense though.

If you can't stop the run you aren't a good defense. Like I'd been saying, we were a bit of fool's gold because our turnover margin simply wasn't sustainable. Our D was protecting itself by forcing turnovers and building a lead forcing the other team to go pass happy. I was anxious to see how we'd do facing a team that was going to be committed to lining up and running it down our throats. It was worse than I expected.

    • Gustavsson would be insane. I think we would have to break the bank to afford that move. Which, I don't think is necessarily a bad idea. Ultimately, Freddie isn't likely to be around more than a couple of seasons more. We can all agree that unless they have a fleet of sports psychologists working on Kochetkov, he will never be capable of getting his head on straight enough to compete.
    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
