Hypothetical: IF Cam is done for the year and we miss the playoffs.......

I'd say that's a matter of opinion.

My own is that there a lot of things that concern me about Rivera. How much he's really in control is one of them.

Rivera definitely inspires loyalty in his players. That's not a bad thing, but there may not be enough good things about him to make him worth keeping.

That’s a different debate altogether.

Wait for Jamie Newman from Wake Forest.

Did you watch the game?  I enjoyed it a lot and Newman played one of his better games.  Newman at least has a shot at the next level.  Has the measurable, and the necessary accuracy throwing ball Needs a little more touch on the short and medium stuff.

The announcers were comparing him to Cam Newton.  Not sure its really valid as Jamie is slightly smaller than Cam, and a slightly more accurate passer, at least in college.  Probably has something to do with Wake running a lot of read option.  And Cam Newton Playing 70 miles or so down the road.

It's actually just an illustration.

Point being that it's not enough for Rivera to just say "well, he told me he was healthy". I'd be willing to bet he knows plenty of people who told coaches they were healthy when they weren't (heck, he may have done that himself).

It's correct to hold Newton responsible for his part in this, but I don't think you can put all the blame on him and completely absolve Rivera.

We should kick the tires on Marcus Mariota, and yes, even Jameis Winston this off season.

Both guys have obviously struggled, but they're with terrible franchises, and theoretically have high potential upside.  I'm skeptical we can find anyone with a mid 1st round pick.

Nick Foles would also be an option in a trade, since it looks like Minsh took his job.   Andy Dalton and Bridgewater are also probably upgrades over Allen.

Best (realistic) options in order

1. Marcus Mariota,

2. Jameis Winston

3. Nick Foles

4. Colin Kap

5. Andy Dalton

6. Teddy Bridgewater

7. Nick Mullens

No fuging way.. I'd rather draft a rookie than go with these retreads and washouts..

Best case scenario. Cam goes to the doctor, he's fine, he comes back in a couple of weeks, Allen somehow gets two more wins, cam takes over.

Worst case scenario, Cam sees the doctor, he's done for the year. Allen continues his journey, we finish 7-9 or worse. Rivera gets fired regardless. (to some that's the best case scenario, lol)

What I think will happen....

Cam see's the doctor, he's not healthy but won't be healthy in time to come back for a playoff push. Allen somehow gets this team to 10-6 but we miss the playoffs. In typical panthers fashion. Rivera keeps his job and we get to see this poo show a little longer.

Personally I want change. I've been done with this staff since they kept playing Cam only to save their own jobs.

Also with Cam I've seen him long enough to know what player he is and he's a really boom or bust type of guy. You're either riding really high, or you're riding extremely low.  Tired of the 'potential' or 'higher ceiling' he has when we've seen him reach it maybe once in his career and the rest has been average at best.

Mariota is a worse passer than Kyle Allen and can't handle pressure.. Jamie's is turnovers waiting to happen on the field and a creep off it.. And Dalton is just a older Kyle Allen to me.. So hell no to all..

My argument was for the folks who completely absolve Cam when he flat out said he wasn’t being open about his functional status...

I see my kid break something.

I go up to him and I say something about it.

Despite my having seen him do it with my own eyes and him being aware of that, he says he didn't do it.

I say "okay" and go off acting like I don't know what happened, my rationale being "Well, he told me he didn't break it."

Is that the kid's fault or mine?

Now we're comparing children to pro football players?

I get the point your making.

I just don't agree with it.

If the player is cleared to play, and he says he's good to go, especially your franchise QB, you tend to play the qb.

This past Sunday, our all world runningback (literally) told the coach that he was ready to go back in.

Coach said "siddown".

That makes me wonder if Rivera might now regret some of his past decisions.
