When crunch time arrives if it's a coin flip Tepper has to eat the $21M & retain Cam for next season.

The Tepper assumption is ridiculous and only something you would know if you knew him personally or do business with him which I feel extraordinarily safe declaring that you don’t.

He is just as likely to want to receive value from a declining and risky asset while it still holds value as he is to want to gamble 10% of the salary cap to see if that asset can rebound and be worth a substantial future investment.

Also, staying healthy for 1 year in no way proves that Cam can stay healthy for the duration of a 4-5 year extension. That would still be an extremely risky move.

The best reason to keep Cam next year is that you think we have a real legitimate chance to win the Super Bowl if he stays healthy and is willing to play on what is essentially a 1 year prove-it deal with zero long term guarantees.

That last point is very much in question, though.

cam absolutely has a choice to not play on a lame duck contract.  it would be absolutely ridiculous to ask him to.  if that's the team position then that's saying we want you gone.   he doesn't have a choice is the 2nd dumbest thing you've posted.  news flash:  we don't own him.

In what world to you live in? If he wants to play football, we 100% own him. You think he is going to hold out for the year and basically miss his third season in a row? Good luck getting a contract. Furthermore we could tag him for 2 more years. Ask Cousins? You don't just let an asset walk because he don wanna pway hear no mow. You sound like Hurney 1.0. You don't pay for past performance. Sorry bud, we have all of the leverage.

Now, a lot of you nut huggers will never admit to it....but you didn't want Cam going into the draft.  You were worried about the stolen laptop, and his crooked Dad, and questionable character, etc.

Yep....  Wonder what our fans would have thought about Cam had he been drafted elsewhere...  Probably not very highly...

no we don't own him.   not 100% and not 50%.  0%.  if he wants a release or trade he will get it.  i don't want us to offer him.   i hope you can understand that.   i also believe he will not play here on a lame duck deal.  the contract was never supposed to see the upcoming year.  he would have been extended if he had played and played well.  now, the way it stands, we would be stupid to extend him and he would be stupid to step foot on the field on a 1 year prove it deal.   no way this team pulls the card you're suggesting on him.  no way in hell.

I understand your sentiment but even if he really wants out we'll take the best offer. Were not just letting him walk because that's what he would prefer. Were taking the best deal.

if we can't find a suitable trade partner that cam agrees with, we'll release him outright.   that is the only way to handle a former franchise qb.  if we don't handle it that way there will be ramifications on our team with the players, and on any FA thinking of coming here.   people say cam doesn't have leverage, but he certainly does.    you can't just treat him like skins did cousins.  he's cam newton.    this is what i think.

Interesting take. We'll have to agree to disagree. If he refuses to stay here and refuses the trade we've offered him. Who's getting slammed by everyone, us or him?

First off we’re assuming that Cam wants to be in Charlotte past 2019. Seems he’s not happy with a lot concerning not only Ron but the medical staff also. If Cam has decided he wants to play somewhere else would it be smart of Tepper to keep him around? Definitely not, could destroy the locker room.

That may not be accurate.  Let's be real here.  If Kyle Allen starts settling in, hitting the deep ball, and the offense comes together under him (let's not forget the continuous revolving doors all over our o-line) then it wouldn't be much of a stretch to get Allen the extension if he manages to win a playoff game.  That $21 million could go a looong way toward bringing in some truly elite talent at receiver, and more importantly, helping us resign some key players.

Dude Cam loves this team, city and all the fans. Carolina is special, I dont think anyone up top stops him from playinf with the team he loves.

Does he love the coaches, the team management, and the physicians? That is the 21 million dollar question.
