Novel Idea

Cam fell on the sword and took one for the team and everyone now blames him for trying to play through the injuries.  Rivera pretends now like he didn't know he was hurt, when they clearly weren't calling the same type of plays when his shoulder was hurt last year or his foot this year.  For this reason alone, I want Rivera gone!  He has never protected Cam.

I think Rivera found it convenient that Cam was trying to conceal the extent of his injury, but he knew he wasn't even close to 100%. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a fool.

The Colts finished with a better record than us last year and this year are doing well despite injuries and being blindsided by their quarterback's sudden retirement.

It's still fairly early in his career but at least for the moment, people around the league view Frank Reich's hire as a home run.

We do have to remember that Brisset has neither the abilities, star power or stroke that Cam had. People literally wanted to hang RR from the goal post because he sat Cam for one series for violating a team gameday arrival wardrobe rule by not wearing a tie. After the incident (made much worse by terrible play by Derek Anderson) the fanbase and the press just tore into Ron and I'm sure Gettleman and the Big Cat quickly explained to the coach that he wasn't the man to make that call again.

Still, a wounded Cam cost us last season and coaching staff should have parked him at least after the Detroit game when it was obvious he was done. Imagine what would have happened had we grabbed Kyle Allen and thrown him in at that point. It might have been enough to just eek out a decent season considering the good head start Cam had created.

That's not the point, though.

What you have here is a case of a coach protecting his quarterback by sitting him down when he realized it would be counterproductive to play him.

He was willing to lose a game (which they did) in order to protect a player's future (which is of course better for the team's future as well).

It's complicated. It's also further complicated by the fact that none of us were privy to the actual conversations last season, or even this season. I'm kind of just siding with Cam and what he has said about this -- he wasn't coming out and he was going to tell RR whatever it took to stay on the field.

Everything beyond what Cam said, either way, is just speculation and working from what we see and what we imagine, not what actually was going on.

Conversations are one thing, but when you get pretty much everyone watching coming to the conclusion that something is wrong, but a professional coach who's supposed to be able to see these things saying "well he didn't tell me", it just looks bad.

What happened to that coach?

(that's probably what should also happen to Rivera)

Every long time coach as played their QB injured at some point. Reid played Mahomes on a high ankle and then brought him back earlier than anyone expected after a dislocated knee cap. Carroll has played a hobbled Wilson. Belichick has played an injured Brady. Wentz under Pederson played through fractured vertebrae for a few games last year. Garrett brought Romo back too soon on Thanksgiving and Romo had previously played with a broken back. Coughlin played Eli on an injured foot in the mid 2000’s. Brees only missed one week with a separated throwing shoulder in 2015 and this year came back very quickly from a torn thumb ligament. Rivers played a playoff game on a torn ACL. Big Ben is basically always hurt included this year when they knew his elbow was messed up and Tomlin sent him out in week 2 where he tore it completely.

This is not even close to a Ron specific or bad coaches only issue. The above coaches have won a combined 15 Super Bowls in the last 20 years.

Granted, it's always a judgment call.

Some people's judgment is just better than others.
