Yeah, none of these guys got into this out of any charitable sensibility. They are here to make money and grow the value of these franchises.

I think a case can be made sort of to the contrary actually, especially when it comes to Tepper. The NFL generates several billion in profits, which is nothing to sneeze at, but hedge fund managers play with vast sums of money routinely.

Not that NFL owners aren’t looking to make money, because they are, but if making money is your only prerogative, there are plenty of more profitable ventures. I would argue that owning a pro sports franchise suits a particular type of millionaire that is a little uncommon, the one that seeks public attention and prestige. The ultra wealthy for the most part tend to shun public attention and visibility, particularly those from the world of finance. It’s one reason their homes are almost never visible from a public road and amongst those circles having such a home is quietly looked down on as a sign of crass new money wealth, the kind of thing a pro athlete might do.

But if you’re rich and you like a little of the limelight, you buy yourself a pro sports team, which will ensure having your name in the press on a regular basis. Case in point, aside from Tepper and George Soto’s, how many hedge fund managers have you ever heard of? Plenty of them are filthy rich.

In the end I’m not saying Tepper doesn’t want to make money, he absolutely does, at this point it’s habit for him. I’m just saying there are factors at play that suggest other primary reasons for sports team ownership compared to other business ventures.

You don't expect Tepper to drive down there do you?

Isn't Tepper still actually living in Florida?

It sounds like they're basically gonna build places for players to live if they want. Not sure how that's supposed to work.

Regardless, I'd say it sure sounds like Tepper wants to outdo Jerryworld.

Excerpts...

The plans for the facility, which would span approximately 240 acres of land on the Hutchinson family site just off I-77, include a team medical facility, headquarters and mixed-use fields and equipment areas, as well as residential areas and requests for approval on a cigar bar, tattoo and piercing permit, an entertainment district, including nightclub permits, and restaurants and approval for the facilitation of sports entertainment and gambling — the construct of which is still unknown.

...

The plan calls for the construction of residential areas directly connected to the facilities, for players, coaches and employees. Currently, there is approval for 10 single-family detached homes, up to 250 attached and 1,225 multifamily with additional allowances for pets, adult care and assisted living facilities, and daycare/preschool. There is also space for a religious center.

...

The proposal outlines many recreational items, both public and team-related, including the construction of museums, libraries, community gardens, farmers markets, “wine tasting establishments”, a craft brewery, concert venues, up to 227,000 square feet allowed for retail space and an indoor shooting range.

Yeah, I think his actions probably show he is just ready for a new chapter in his life and a different interest. Still, it is not a hobby/interest that is not going to be profitable.

Not surprised at this.........years ago I did research in business on the old Heritage USA site in Fort Mill where the Baker con artists set up all that stuff and for a while Disney had its eyes on buying that out to create a theme park that would dwarf Carowinds but the deal never came about.....

However, creating Tepperworld seems to be comparing NFL Billionaire financial gonads with other Jerry Jones types..........and while it might work out, I can't imagine what could go wrong with a bunch of millionaire NFL players situated around all that night life and gamble huh?

Maybe we can hire Barry Switzer out of retirement and he can make over the Panthers in the image of his 90's Cowboys and manage to win a SB while he and his players are dodging the law.........good grief this franchise is about to get more bizarre than it already is.
