The Grier Question

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

Kyle has shown more than Grier.  Shown he is both serviceable and abominable.  Serviceable against bad competition with some bright spots sprinkled in and abominable against good competition with some truly sad spots sprinkled in.  Grier has not had the opportunity.  It cannot get any worse.  Mediocre is the new last place.  Start Kyle and sub in Grier without any fear of damaging anyone's feelings.  That is what I hope to see.  I want to see Grier without the full weight of the NFL QB1 responsibility dropped in his lap just yet.

And, to be clear here, I do not think Will Grier is the answer.  I just want to have a reason to tune in this week and next.  Entertain me motherfvckers!  LOL

Would it matter at this point? Do you really care if we lose by 20 or 40? I don't.

My point being, unless the coaching staff really feels that Grier is completely incapable of playing, what is there to really lose anymore? And this is under the assumption that we trust the coaching staff assessment(very debatable). Even if that assessment were true, what does that say about Norv's decision to lobby for him, the coaching staff's ability to get him prepared and Hurney's decision to draft him?

At this point we all are pretty much in agreement that Kyle isn't the future and continuing to send him out to get shelled and perform horribly is not really doing much for his confidence either. I'm just not really buying into any of the downside arguments.

When the game is over, no I don't care how much we lose by.

When I'm watching it happen, I care a lot.

Fair enough. I just don't see the downside to rolling out Grier at some point over these last six games, especially in the highly likely scenario we lose on Sunday and then are all but eliminated from playoff contention. And, especially if Kyle has another stinker of a game or turns the ball over at a high rate. My ultimate question is that if we keep trotting Kyle out there and he keeps failing....what exactly are we doing? Intentionally tanking? Because that is what it would basically look like.

Fair point but I've been through the 1-15 season and two Super Bowl losses so I am not sure much more can be done to hurt me(maybe aside from Super Bowl loss #3 without a victory).

I'd be okay with sending Grier out there. I know it's a risk, but you've got to face those at some point.

I agree with Igo that that's probably not going to happen.

Yeah, I honestly believe that it wouldn't happen with a healthy Kyle Allen. Nothing about Ron Rivera indicates to me he would bother trying anything different, even in the face of obvious failures. It's the primary reason I think most of the fanbase has soured on him.

Ron has expressed that he wants to develop him, which is admirable.

Of course, to be the guy that does that, you have to still have the job.

I was waiting for the Kyle Allen Fan Club to show up, you never disappoint me with your constant “Nut Hugger” comments even though you seem to have a mouthful of Allen’s.

What are you? Just a hater or do you love all the sacks.

I was waiting for the Kyle Allen Hate Club to show up.  He is the best QB we have right now, so until that changes he will have to do.

It's very possible, but bet's be honest, would it be shocking to anyone to find out that Ron wasn't playing the best player? It's not like we haven't seen that story play out time and time again during the Rivera era when injuries showed that the better player had been riding the pine.

    • It's going to take time to really evaluate new ownership. I still have some hopes that they can get us past the curse of the Jordan years. We got screwed over by the league with the lottery yet again, nothing in this draft was ever going to make people happy after that happened.
    • The Hornets were screwed when they lost out on the #1 pick. Outside of Cooper Flagg this was a terrible draft class full of risky prospects and red flags. Kon Knueppel likely won't ever be a superstar - or even a star, realistically - but he can be a solid contributor for a long time in the league. That's actually more than I think will end up being the case for many of these players.
    • I guess we should disregard what all these places say about our draft? And just trust you guys on this board? And as far as the Mark Williams trade, most places are saying we got the much better end of that trade for what its worth to yall. Bleacher report has Kon a "B", BR has him C+, Fansided A-, NBC Sports overall draft an A-, Sports Illustrated overall A-, MSN has Kon a B+, Yahoo Sports has us at an A- overall. Here is what ESPN posted:  Post-Draft Analysis Knueppel's well-rounded perimeter game and terrific 3-point shooting ultimately won out in Charlotte's decision process, with the Hornets attracted to his fit with their current roster and his long-term potential. He should help stabilize their perimeter minutes immediately, with his dependability all season at Duke a major selling point. The Hornets were thought to be exploring moves here, but were content to simply grab their guy and move forward. This is a strong match that should pay off right away for both sides. -- Jeremy Woo
