Man--that is about 5% of his salary.  Not a deterrent for all players, but for those playing for the minimum, it is huge.

$28,000 is a huge punishment for a guy making minimum.  To someone like Aaron Donald who makes $22.5m per year, it is nothing.  However, if the fine was 1% of the player's annual salary, for example, Donald would have to pay $225,000.  If White had to pay 1% of his salary, it would be $6450.  Since the employer is fining the employee, a fine should have the same impact on the individuals committing the same offense.  

Our judicial system does the same thing with fines--and the impact is devastating on the poor and not a big deal at all to the rich.  Social injustice, people.  That is what this fine system mirrors.  I am done.

I should add that I think the fine system is way out of control.  First, here are a few suggestions:

1.  Fine only for hits that seem intentional that endanger another player.  Fines for penalties that are designed to protect a player's safety are not always fair.  For example, if a defender horse collars another player to save a TD.  Or if a player targets another player's head.  Or a high/low combo block that seems planned.  Incidentally, the same rule applies to fights such as hitting another player with his own helmet, poking eyes, etc. Fine that.  Not players who commit unfortunate penalties within the speed of the game.  Yes, White should have been penalized and fined.

2.  If a player is injured as a result of a hit that was determined (by a panel or committee) to be intentional, then the fine should coincide with that player being suspended for the amount of time it takes the injured party to return to action.  The player White hit did not return; neither should White have been allowed to continue.   Old Testament justice,  to be honest, up to a set number of games.  If the Olsen hit causes him to miss 3 games, for example, the Falcon player should sit for 3 games if the hit was determined to be intentional.

      So we cut him if we don't give him the option?  I'm pretty sure there are players who didn't get the 5th-year option that played year four of their rookie contracts with their draft team.

      I didn't say do nothing if we don't draft one in the 1st and I"m not counting on a FA to magically become a franchise QB. But signing a FA to be our starter for the year and then re-address the next offseason would be FAR better than reaching on the wrong QB in the 1st this offseason. Feeling we HAVE to find our long term solution just because we need a new QB is how we got into this mess.  We thought Two Gloves would be at worst an average level QB for a few years, that didn't happen, so we went out and traded for Darnold.  That didn't work so we went out and traded for Baker, that didn't work so we went out and traded up to get Bryce. Our last 4 QB moves were all trying to force a solution, none of them worked out, and we're still trying to find Cam's replacement all these years later.  We'd just have been better off spending a year or two building up the rest of the team and going year to year on FA QB's while doing so.  I get it, it will be frustrating to deal with, but then when you find that actual long term solution, they plug right into an already built out roster and you're ready to contend immediately.

      Great win, should be 3-0 but I'll take 2-1. LaMelo is an MVP caliber player, period.   This is looking like an incredible draft so far. Sion James looking like the exact type of role player that all contending teams need to have, absolute steal in the 2nd. Kalk is a work in progress and I question how much upside he has but he's already been a considerable upgrade at C for us compared to the last several years (outside of healthy Mark which of course was rare).   Really seems like new ownership/front office has change the culture here significantly. Every guy looks bought in now.
