2015 seems like ages ago..what happened?

People will overcomplicate this

but it was mostly two factors

1- We lost Sean McDermott to Buffalo;  Sean is a defensive genius, and was responsible for our defense being so great (look at what he's doing in Buffalo despite having a mediocre Josh Allen as his QB).  Steve Wilks was not very good, and Eric Washington is likely the most incompetent DC in the entire NFL.

2. Obviously, Cam Newton got hurt and we are now starting Kyle Allen (the worst starting QB in the entire NFL).  The downgrade from an MVP QB to Kyle Allen is alone worth about 10 wins.  It's easy to forget we were 6-2 last year before Cam Newton got hurt.

Losing McDermott and Newton is 90% of why we collapsed.

We're actually better in a lot of positions compared to 2015, but QB and coaching is everything.  I'd throw in Luke's decline as a small factor as well.

People have no idea how big losing Sean McDermott was.  He's one of the best coaches in the entire NFL and we should have made him head coach.

Buffalo does not really have much talent, and Josh Allen is a bottom 5 starting QB.

As great as Cam Newton was, we always had an elite defense until he left.

I love how everyone is blaming Hurney for 2016 when he wasn’t hired until 2017.

Gettleman played a huge role in our collapse by placing a dick measuring contest with an agent above keeping our team strong. His 2016 draft class was an absolute failure and his vaunted hogmollie line imploded.

Nobody is blaming Hurney for 2016.

Likewise, nobody who knows what they're talking about is crediting Marty for 2017.
