Tepper firing Rivera was not about winning this year

Hate to state the obvious.. but too many people on here are reacting to yesterday's game like the team was supposed to look better after Tepper fired Rivera.  That was never my expectation, and I'm sure it wasn't for Tepper.  Rivera deserved to be fired for years of mediocrity and incompetence, but the timing was related to the following:

1.  Gives Tepper the freedom to openly search for a new head coach.

2.  Opportunity to evaluate the remaining coaching staff and "interview" potential internal candidates.  (Fewell is auditioning for the HC job).

3.  Tank so we can draft a potential franchise QB or at least a high impact player in the 2020 draft.    Rivera would have kept trying to win to save his job which is counterproductive if you know you're going to fire him at the end of the season.

It is hard to believe people were expecting Rivera's firing was going to be a snake oil cure for this season.  It was essentially the training throwing in the towel to get the referee to stop the fight.

Sometimes, teams do get fired up after a coach's dismissal, come out, and kick some backside the following week.  The Falcons are certainly a team that could be the victim of that, but this team is not capable of it.

I think he wants to tank.

And I like the idea of tanking the season, then trading Kuechly and our 1st to the Bengals to move up to #1 and grab Burrow.

I'm fully aware this post will get poo'd all over and IDGAF.  Rebuilds start with QBs.  The Patriots have been a dynasty because they recognize how to get value out of players that are on the decline at just the right time.

We are a team now, playing their backup QB and our long time head coach was just fired.  I dont see us winning any games the rest of the season.

We wont need to trade Luke.  If Cam is healthy after surgery, we can trade him for at least a first rounder.  I dont care what anyone else says.  Sam Freakin Bradford went for a 1st and a 4th.  Cam is worth at least a 1st.  We could then package that first rounder and our first rounder (if we lose out, could be #7.)  That should be enough to move up into the top 2 to draft Burrow.

Sorry, but Cam is not worth a 1st round pick if he hasn't proven he can stay healthy.

And Hurney deserved to be fired long before Rivera but somehow he’s still on the team
