I mean it’s not so much a theory...as long as you’ve done your homework first round pick should be the easiest one to make.

I’d rather have a GM who nails picks 2-4 and botches the first round myself.

How are the 1st rounder so good, even for first rounders standards? Then the rest are a couple of almosts and then a whole bunch of WTFs? Such a large swing. Also, look at his list of 'graded as 1st rounders' list. Little (early but not promising), Clausen and Brown (yes we traded a 1st but selected with a 2nd). That is some huge inconsistancies for just homework.

I think i would rather have a well rounded GM that make some large hits in the first 3 rounds but when he missed or just OK, called it what it looks like. 4-7, find contributors and allow a project here and there at positions that already have depth.

Scot's incredible  arrogance  while constantly  showing his lack of history knowledge aside.. Does this matter.. Isn't it a sure thing that Hurney is probably taking a lesser role when Colbert is brought in??

Riiiight.

Do me a favor and tell me the story again about that incredible catch that helped the 49ers beat the Cowboys by Dallas Clark :)

Which is nobody in the league.. Not defending Marty but what YOU want doesn't exist.. All GM have hits and misses..

What happened to waiting at least 3 years to truly evaluate a draft pick.  Plus we all know that the large majority of starters are chosen in the first 3 rounds. Lastly while Hurney may not hit on later picks, who exactly does?  Seems to me compared to other teams, the Panthers have drafted better than many teams

Why exactly would you have to wait three years to evaluate a guy who was cut from the roster in two?

For perspective, our buddy here was once bragging about his knowledge of football history. Among the great moments he talked about remembering well was "The Catch" by 49ers receiver Dallas Clark.

I laughed for a good while about that one :)

Where is the receipt Scot??.. You are getting old and remembering conversation you had with others.. At no point in my years on this forum and the one before this one on Panthers.com ..

Have I talked about, typed or thought about Dallas Clark, the 49ers or the Cowboys with you..

Please go back in your vast archives  and get a clue..

That game can be played all day with most teams. Everyone missed on Tom Brady right? Kurt Warner went under after. The Patriots have drafted players in early rounds that haven’t lived up to their hype. I’m not a Hurney fan, but people can cherry pick to make most teams look foolish in the draft.

Because he could get picked up by another team and show improvement which would suggest that we misused him. If he doesn't get picked up next year which would be his third season then it confirms he was a bust and we were right for cutting him. It isn't hard to figure out.

I'm convinced he doesn't really pay attention to the team, but talks as if he does.

Again there have been players cut by one team who got picked up elsewhere and showed improvement which could be an indictment of the system not the player. Not only do I pay attention but are aware of various scenarios in the league instead of simple huddle logic.
