Lions #3 pick up for grabs?

Been reading a lot about this 3rd pick and what the Lions might want to do with it.

What we know:

Apparently their ownership gave management the “one more year or heads will roll” speech while also publicly stating this to the fans.

What we can assume:

The odds of the Lions drafting a QB here are probably pretty slim because this regime most likely won’t trust a rookie QB to save all their jobs

Why we would want it:

I know a lot can change from now until the draft but I’d assume we only make a jump is if it’s for a QB. The only QB that makes since to trade up for if not Burrow is Tua. We’d need to leapfrog Miami and possibly the Chargers, who both could be targeting Tua.

What do we offer:

Based on the draft pick value chart...

Trade 1

Panthers trade Cam to the Chargers for their 2nd & 3rd rd

Trade 2

Panthers trade #7 overall, the Chargers 2nd & 3rd rd for Lion’s #3 overall pick

Why the trades could work:

Chargers are moving into their new stadium and need a spark. To bring in Cam while still possessing their 1st rounder would be a nice get

Lions obviously add more picks to this year’s draft class. A future 1st attached to this year’s 1st does nothing for this current regime. A 1st, 2 2nds and 2 3rds to draft with this year would be nice.

Would y’all make this move? Is this unrealistic af? Does it surprisingly make sense all around? What are your thoughts?

The Vegas Raiders have the what 12th and 19th picks?  That's what I find interesting and they're going to want an attraction.  I'm not promoting it but if we do ship Cam, that's where he'll go if I'm a betting man.  Not Chicago, Denver or San Diego (All of which happen to be my last 3 cities of residency haha)

Said this in another thread if the Panthers trade Cam its because they believe hes not 100% that also means other teams know this also

Panthers wont be getting any first rounders

Or because Cam has lost his mobility. Cam not being affective running the ball removes one of his best assets.

Not necessarily.  It's all speculation but I think the reports that 8-10 teams would give a pretty penny for him aren't unfounded.  I think we could get a first and 4th.  Maybe...

    • A winning record would be nice, but I still have us winning around the 6 to 8 game mark. Realistically we should beat the Jets and Saints, that gets us to 5 wins. After that, we have to face a lot of potential play off teams and our divisional opponents. I think we’ll win 1 or 2 of those games to take us to 6 or 7 wins, perhaps 8 wins if we can spring a further surprise.  Is that enough progress for head coach and QB? I’m not sure, it will depend on performances and output. That said, it’s nice to be back in a position where we are thinking about the play offs.
    • I would tend to agree about not falling into the trap and paying a below average QB, but sometimes situations can “force” a team to pay that QB. For example, if we play ourselves into a 9-8 like record, then what options will we have in the draft? Or do we avoid the draft and trade for or sign someone in free agency?  I’m not convinced by the 2026 QB draft class. There’s some intriguing prospects but no one that really screams “draft me”. I’m not sure we’ve got anyone really that stands out as a trade candidate or free agent signing. So although we might not want to commit a big money contract to Young, him playing well and showing progress might force the team’s hand.
    • Realistically we would be looking at no more than a mid round pick for Dowdle or Chuba. Are we really that desperate for a mid round pick? Not really. I would much prefer us utilise the two RBs in a 1-2 punch similar to how we used D-Will and Stewart. After all, Bryce is not Drew Brees. He won’t throw for 300+ yards and carry the team consistently as a passer. So having a strong running game with a 1-2 punch will be beneficial to him, and it will also be beneficial to the RBs because we can spell them and not overwork them.
