Anyone seen any comments from Cam about Luke retiring?

Cam seems to have quite a bit on his mind these days. Probably blindsided by this with everything else that has been going on. But truthfully his silence makes me wonder if he already knows something we don't and he's just waiting for the other shoe to drop so to speak.

Seems like the inside the organization knew this was coming. Cam may have already reached out to Luke, privately.

Oh I’m sure this is the case, but he is the face of the team, and you think he would have put out a public statement about Luke and what he has meant to the team. He very well could do that this morning, but it makes me wonder why he hasn't already.

He probably called him/talked to him in person instead of looking for attention from the outside by posting on social media about it

i'm sorry but that doesn't sound like cam at all.

Cam haters of the world unite!

JFC I just found out about it this morning. Cam likely knew way before anyone else, and has probably already talked to Luke privately.

Despite what y'all may still think, and what you may want, Cam Newton doesn't owe your expectations a god damn thing.

FWIW Greg's announcement won't be too far behind.

Cam could retire too, and then all of you will get what you're asking for. At least a decade of mediocrity.

I don't pretend to know what either Cam or the team's plans for him might already have been, but here's how I'm viewing this from Cam's perspective:

I think it's possible Cam may have been hoping that if he got healthy a reload instead of a rebuild was possible. It might not have been super likely, but it's certainly not something that would have been completely out of the question.

Until yesterday.

I think Luke's retirement closes the door on the notion Cam could come back to Carolina next year and play as the QB of a team legitimately competing for the playoffs. He may already have been thinking in this direction or not, but I think he now has no choice but to think that if he wants to compete any time soon, he'll have to do it with another team.

I think Luke's retirement just caused any chance Cam is back with the team next year to drop through the floor. That chance may have already been small, I don't know. I just know that if I'm Cam, moving forward with the Panthers no longer clearly seems in the best interests of any career goals I might have.

Who cares? That is none of our business. Its honestly ridiculous for fans to expect that. Players don't have to share their feelings and emotions over social media just to satisfy fans. That takes away the sincerity for doing it. Cam loves his Luke Sky Walker and I know for a fact he has reached out to him in a personal private way. Deal with it

    • There is a Grand Canyon-sized chasm between your opinion and the opinions of most former player hockey guys who do this for a living.
    • I can only imagine the **** eating grins on the committee right now. "Oh, Bama didn't deserve it? Oh, Miami didn't deserve it? Suck it, haters!" lol
    • To say that, is gaslighting, because it isn’t true. I mean, maybe one or two people do that but it isn’t the predominant behavior. Even Frank has given him credit. I think particularly the Rams game. A couple of glowing posts.   I know I have. Gotta be honest about it because if you aren’t it undermines what else you say.  But the degree of how far I go with credit, in terms of it being a projection of future performance? Not very far. Acknowledge it, but require more of it. There is a lot of bad play to offset.    I tried to remain passive while the last 9 games (post ankle injury) played out. It is just really hard when the lows won’t go away. I failed. As high as a couple of those highs were, there isn’t enough.    I know it is premature to just say I want to move on, made my decision after 6 of those games ended up pretty much really good or not good enough, but I have had enough of being patient and letting him show the reality either way.  So in my view, he Could still validate himself to a decent degree if he smokes the last three starts. But also in my view I don’t expect to see it. Maybe one more high quality start, would be my expectation. So yes he could still somehow justify having the job next year. If that happened I still wouldn’t have much faith given the last three years and all that has transpired. Again, there is a lot of bad play to offset.
