"The belief is Panthers will draft a QB"

A waste. Draft an OT and take Fields or Lawrence next year.

This is where I stand. But look how tanking worked out for the Dolphins. They ended with the same record as us. I wouldn’t put it past this new staff to bring in their hand selected QB right away. And that could be Herbert with Burrows and Tua off the board.

If that indeed comes to fruition, let’s hope Brady can work the same magic he did with Burrow. Herbert has all the physical attributes. We just need to get his head on right.

Honestly if the Panthers are dumb enough to take Herbert you may as well free up your Sundays for the next 6-7 years because its gonna be a bad time.

I don't like him at all based on Oregon games that I've watched which there's been plenty. He just isn't asked to make any NFL reads and few NFL throws. But, if we take him, I'm gonna hope like hell that's just a product of that Oregon offense. He has intriguing skills, just gotta hope he's capable of doing much more than Oregon asked if him.

What exactly are the signs we want to move Cam?

No one affiliated with the team has outright said he WILL be the starter, but that's because his foot is still healing and no one knows for sure if he will return to full health.

So what, beyond pure speculation and armchair GM-ing, has suggested that we might cut or trade Cam?

I'm not questioning you I'm just curious if I missed something obvious.

I’d be very happy to keep him I’m just following the offseason drum beat.  Jourdaine has hinted/stated a few times she expects us to explore the trade market, Joe has said medical experts have said there are signs of arthritis in his shoulder and writes like he thinks he’s gone, Igo has said he hears they want to trade him, the national media seems pretty confident we trade him which you can believe or not but NFL scouts apparently are even assuming it from this article, Rhule clearly wanted to slow play talk when he got here about Cam, etc.

Id love to be wrong but there is a lot of smoke that yes could be speculation but writing it off like this board wants to is just burying our head in the sand.  Our beat writers 100% (sans Newton) know more than we do about the situation and the team will never state it’s going to trade Cam publicly, so I’m just going to keep following the drumbeat.

To me the biggest sign (among many) is his contract and teppers comment.  It makes no sense to trot cam out there and win 8 games when we know tepper isnt going to give him a huge deal.

Thanks for the breakdown.  I guess I've seen all the things you mentioned but hadn't put together the whole picture like that.

I admittedly have my head in the sand a bit when it comes to Cam.  I personally don't want to pretend he's gone until he actually is, but I see why other people are.

And thats not to say I definitely know what i'm talking about, I dont know nearly as much as a lot of people so if i'm wrong i'll be happy we get more Cam and admit i'm an idiot.  I just have seen momentum like this numerous times in sports and its hard to stop it.

I'm still on board with Hurts in the second round after taking a OL/DL at #7.  I'm still wanting a LT for the simple fact that if it works out we will have our QB, LT, CMC, Thomas, Moore, Samuel, Armah, Turner and Moton.  That's a solid start for the offensive side.  Just a few more pieces and it will be a well rounded 'O'.

Hurts is terrible.  Fug that

Herbert has the measurables and is a good kid but it is extremely worrisome that he was so average this year.  Really heavy first read offense too.  I think he will bust.

    • Watching games this year again and Bryce missed a wide open XL many times and some of them were in the endzone. I get the kid has mental lapses and hasn't broke out yet, but this is year three on a rookie deal! Cutting bait now is too early. If he hasn't gained anymore trust from his QB, posted any highlights, little production, or outright gets beat out then we can talk movement.
    • Samesies   I truly may just cash completely out of Panther football if we give him a long term deal that isnt necessary.  I have watched NFL for 50 years now and I can without a shadow of a doubt say you cannot win consistently with BY.  Way too many limitations to deal with.   I may come back around in 3 years when the inevitable happens and all parties are either cut and/or fired.  Giving him a deal before this season so you hopefully can get him cheaper in case he "blows up" or if you truly believe that he will has to be the most moronic decision a gm can make when the evidence is laid before you with different players
    • This is the one! I was at that game and all KB had to do was lay down on the corner after the pick or make an obvious tag while he was down. He had already ran a lazy route. Then if Cam would've just walked to the sideline like most elite QBs instead of trying to make the tackle.  A lot of people bring up the TJ Watt hit, but he just reaggravated a bunch of scar tissue from that play. And every Cam hater said that the running did him in and it was a dive tackle attempt on an interception that initially began the shoulder deterioration. He still went to New England later and would've got them in the playoffs had their A team not sat out the covid year. We quit on him too early. But hey how good was Teddy? Am I right?
