NFL head coaching experience incoming: Panthers interview Ben McAdoo, Mike McCoy for assistant coach roles...

Per PFT:

A couple of former NFL head coaches are on the radar for jobs of Matt Rhule’s staff in Carolina.

Joseph Person of TheAthletic.com reports that the Panthers have interviewed former Giants head coach Ben McAdoo and that former Chargers head coach Mike McCoy is meeting with the team on Thursday. There’s no word about a specific role on the staff with Joe Brady already on hand as the offensive coordinator.

McAdoo was fired by the Giants with four games to play in the 2017 season after posting a 13-15 record. He has not coached for anyone over the last two seasons.

McCoy went 27-37 with the Chargers before being fired at the end of the 2016 season. He was also 1-1 in the postseason. McCoy was hired as the Broncos offensive coordinator the next year, but was fired during the season. He rebounded by landing the same job with the Cardinals in 2018 only to suffer the same fate as Arizona’s offense failed to ignite.

Same here but honestly they showed enough to get head coaching roles before, so as an assistant they will help Matt get acclimated to the NFL schedule which he will definitely need.

About the only things these two could provide him is what NOT to do.  McCoy is overated, Jake likes everybody.  McAdoo is muh.   But the bigger problem is still Hurney so it's whatever.

McAdoo was a victim of Mora, I truly believe that.

I'm not sure if he's a good or bad coach but look at the Giants now.

I want nothing to do with McCoy. He's been terrible at every stop.

He was a good coordinator before becoming a HC. His last two OC jobs since getting fired as HC have been pretty bad though... Either way he’s interviewing for the QB coach role and has a ton of experience as a HC and OC... same with McAdoo. Both of these are good looks. Always good to have talented coaches (who have been good enough to be hired as head coaches or coordinators) be in lesser roles such as a QB coach.

    • All I heard was uber rides, weight trainers, and t shirts??? Maybe some meals too........ What a monster and he should be tossed in a rusty wood chipper!!!1!11!!!!!
    • This is from 5 months ago. It was one or the other. Trade for one or draft one. We apparently called the Jets about Wilson. We also talked to the Seahawks about Metcalf. Drafting our own guy was the best course of action given the required investment. Regardless now is the time for Bryce Young to produce. We are fourth amongst all teams in cap spending on the OL. Back to back first round picks at WR and multiple young TE draft picks now. Very solid and respectable backfield. New pieces across the defense. The time is now.
    • That was just the worst time to have their worst game of the season. One key deal was the broncos guess the Panthers would NOT change any plays or flow to the game. Another key point overlook that bronco defense was truly one of the best in the NFL history. It was the best defense the Panthers faced that year, by far. They were not ready for it, but broncos were ready for the Panthers. Mix in that bad luck, poor refs showcase, and this is the golden boys last game........ Panthers needed to win by 20 and the broncos defense was not going to allow that.  Panthers were the favorites and I believe they also thought that it was going to easier than them destroying NFC playoff teams as they marched to the SB. I've heard darin Gantt say the play calls were to give remmers help, but for some reason the team never did it. During the year they never had that problem, so maybe never practiced giving help via TE/RB, or WR chip. Cam was superman that year, no need for any adjustments...... Until you meet a legendary defense with studs at all levels, Think about it, Peyton was throwing wingless dunks for the whole season, the defense had to carry his corpse to the SB. That's how good they were, not many defense are able to get to the playoffs and win a SB without decent QB play. If you recall the beginning of that defense took Tim Teblows and his non-throwing arse to the playoffs couple years before. That's insane the level of defense needed to overcome.
