Panthers to interview Scott Linehan

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

Linehan has generally been an OC but has also coached quarterbacks and receivers. He's considered a solid offensive mind and id yet another potential assistant with head coaching experience (admittedly bad, like the others).

We've already got an OC and (reportedly) a receiver coach, so Linehan might be yet another QB Coach candidate.

Word also that Ben McAdoo has interviewed with the Jaguars for their OC position.

So far, the NFL experienced people we are bringing in doesn't seem very impresive. Berry would have been a huge hit. Im not against the college people we have brought in, i was just hoping for a Wade Phillips type and not the three we brought in. Meh

Scott Linehan is one of the best guys in the league to work with a young QB.  BUT, while he's great with young QBs, once the young guy has experience and the league has a book on him several years later...Scott is not the guy to take the kid to the next level.  So IMO if we have Cam, I don't know how Scott is going to be able to be of much help.  But if we bring in a young buck, he's at the top of my list of guys I'd want to have on board.

Linehan has been said to have kind of a Sherlock Holmes / Doctor Who / Gregory House / These Are All Basically The Same Character type of personality in that he's really smart and sometimes has a low tolerance for people not as smart as he is. It came to light when the Cowboys had a silly arrangement for he and Bill Callahan to work together but he eventually just nudged Callahan out of the way.

Side Note: Would love Callahan as an OL Coach.

Does this mean after the draft, we’ll start looking for a GM to replace Hurney?

Makes sense.  A lot of teams seem to be taking that, where they wait until after the draft to change the GM.

Berry would be a good hire.

I don't know if it says that directly but it does sound like a possibility.

Nick Caserio could still be another option there too. That's when his contract ends.

And of course there's also the possibility of Kevin Colbert. He'd be a shorter term solution than the others, but potentially someone who could whip the organization into shape and then hand it off to somebody younger (Brandon Hunt, maybe).

That's when exec contracts end it seems. So there are people that basically become free agents then. Worth the wait if you believe one of those people is the right one
