Rhule on Cam

I also think its hysterical that people that think that even if Cam is 100% healthy we are going to get a 2015 version of him.  There is no way on Gods green earth that he is going to be the runner that he was and to me that is what made Cam so lethal.  After all the injuries to numerous body parts its just not reasonable to expect him to do the same things.

2015 Cam is a great player and one I’d love to see again. With that said, I don’t believe you’re going to see the uber athletic ability any longer. Joe Brady’s offense, at least from watch LSU, looks to need an accurate passer, which is not exactly Cam’s strong suit. However, I’m excited to see how all of it shakes out. It should be the most interesting off season we’ve had in a while.

The foot is the only injury he's had that might impact his running ability.

Even if he had never had the foot injury, or the shoulder, would you consider it wise to run a 30 year old qb or older double digit times per game? I think that's an aspect of this everyone has mostly overlooked, that even if Cam is 100% healthy, he should have been downshifting the running as he became a more veteran qb and able to be effective from the pocket. I think it's now fairly imperative that if we wish to keep him long term, running must become the last resort, not part of the game plan.  The unanswered question is how effective he can be when this part of his game is removed. But especially after watching how poorly the league and it's officiating crews protect him from illegal hits the last four years, I don't want to put him at any greater risk than necessary.

He said he hadn’t spoken to or in regard to any players on literally the first day on the job.

If you think he got through a several hours long interview in his home with Tepper and Hurney and the topic of one Cam Newton and his future with the team never came up, I have some real estate opportunities I'd like to discuss with you. I think it's entirely possible he was told no decision has been reached yet. I don't think it's even remotely possible he wasn't discussed.

Not sure how me reiterating what he said to the media has anything to do with how he actually feels or has said behind closed doors.

That actually builds my point. This could be him stating he hopes Cam is back or could be a big smokescreen for a future trade. No one knows so we should all stop pretending to and stop getting butt hurt whenever someone even hints at the possibility that Cam won’t be here next year because there’s a fairly strong case for either option.

Citation needed.  Considering Tepper has literally said that "all options are on the table".

"By the way, the last time I looked, there's three quarterbacks on this team. Kyle Allen, who you've seen a lot of, still young. Wil Grier, who hasn't been in yet, who we're developing in a very traditional way, who may be very good at some point, and Cam Newton. So, there's a lot of possibilities here for somebody to look at if they want to come here, and we're not weighed down by $36 million a year mistakes right now."

Pretty crystal clear how he feels about a mega contract in regards to building a team

The highlighted statement does not say to me Tepper is against paying any qb 36 mil. As a businessman he will know that you have to pay the market rate for any scarce premium commodity and that is definitely franchise qb’s . What the highlighted statement says to me is he’s against paying 36 mil for a qb who’s not worth it because a premature or emotional decision was made by a GM or owner not being completely rational.

*pauses to look at JR and Hurney and all those Hurney 1.0 extensions*

I don’t think the statement is crystal clear at all. I think anyone could easily put one of several slants on it. The one that makes the most sense to me given situational context is this is Tepper’s way of saying “we’ll pay Cam the market rate, but only if he comes back next year and demonstrates he’s worth it,”

As always YMMV

    • Not sure I completely agree but it's a pretty accurate list
    • If Reich or Fitterer were still around I think the need to extend Young because of what he cost would be stronger.  And yeah Morgan was Fit's right hand when the call was made but there an equal chance that Dan will see it as a chance to move on from Fit and shake off that stink. Holding out some hope that 3 years and clear eyes will allow for an honest appraisal that Young just aint the guy
    • As far as elite/elevate talent QB’s It’s Allen Mahomes Jackson and Burrow that’s it.  Then we have tiers and those can be debated all day Dak is a good QB but I know this board would want him out of Charlotte if he was the QB here. 2 playoff wins in 10 years. Justin Herbert no playoff wins. Threw 4 interceptions in last years playoff game. 23 TD passes last year. 20 the year below and 25 the year before that. This board loves stats without context and these stats aren’t saying they’re much above complimentary  Kyler Murray isn’t good. I’m not sure how he made this list.  Caleb Williams, Trevor Lawrence both benefiting from some real good offensive coaches right now. They’re both complimentary pieces until proven otherwise  I like Jordan Love. Always have. I wanted to draft him but he isn’t a superstar.  CJ Stroud hasn’t been much better than Bryce after his rookie season. After that Bears game year 2 his numbers very similar to Bryce I will say I think Drake Maye is well on his way to becoming the next top tier QB if I had to pick one from this entire list. I’d also say Baker Mayfield is a damn good QB and I’d take him over most of those guys not in the elite category  Now if you want to debate tools and which QB’s possess tools to put them in higher tiers that’s a completely different discussion. Most QB’s on your main list all have those physical tools that will keep you thinking he’ll become the next top tier QB. They’ll sprinkle in a “wow” play or two a game. Bryce will never look that way. Young’s game at its peak will physically always look different and I think that’s where most people struggle when it comes to seeing how Young’s can be successful in the league  All QB’s need a team around them. I think the Bills are failing Josh Allen much like the Panthers did Cam. Beane and McDermott using same blueprint with Bills team. Josh Allen hasn’t had much in terms of WR’s and it’s ultimately costing them when it matters the most
