16/8 intermittent fasting?

Pejorative Miscreant

Recommended Posts

Anyone ever try this?  Started this week. Seems to fit my schedule so I will see what it brings.  Maintaining closer to an 18/6 on a mostly low carb/keto like food intake.  Early days but it seems like eating 3 meals based on the clock was more of a habit than a necessity.

Only drawback is my intake window is between 3:00 and 9:00 pm but I think the shortened time frame might somewhat offset the late meal.  We shall see.

It works...and if you want to turbo charge it keep doing low carb with it.  Sheds pounds like crazy.

Expect your energy level to skyrocket as well.

Personally I have found this works good when I want to shed some pounds...

Don’t  eat after 8pm or before noon (16 hrs).  I make sure that first meal around noon is low to no carb.  That way I am still burning fat.  If I eat some carbs around dinner so be it.

Can I ask how old you guys are?

My normal schedule is pretty close to a 16/8 now, but I've tried several weight loss methods which have yielded no results. But, in full disclosure, I'm 64, my thyroid quit working 5 years ago and I had my gall bladder out about 9 years ago.

When my thyroid went, I went from 250 to 280 in about 18 months, had zero energy and couldn't motivate myself to do anything. Once I was diagnosed and started taking my daily pill, I also started a gym routine which keeps my energy level up and I've added a good deal of muscle, but my waist size is the same and my weight has remained constant for the last 3-4 years at 285,  give or take 2-3 lbs.

I've been doing it for  3yrs 5-6 days a week mon-sat ( eat whenever on Sun). Started out as an experiment when I was about 215lbs I took off 15lbs pretty fast, then it just became a lifestyle.

39yr

6'0" 195lb

My last meal is 8pm and I don't eat until about noon.

14-15hr seems to be my sweet spot these days, I work out first thing in the AM for 1 1/2hr, and especially after a hard Cardio workout I'll need to eat. ( usually break it with fruit and a kombucha.

I've tried the 18/6 but can't maintain more then a few days,  if I wasn't working out so hard then probably, but after a long workout I need to refuel just get too light headed and irritable if I try to push on.

I listen to my body, If i wake up and I'm starving and feeling weak I will eat forget the fast there are usually a couple of days per month like that.

I’m 48 and just needed to shed some weight.  No health problems other than the growing bulge around my mid section so I wanted to confront it before it caused some problems.

only issue I have is my work schedule and i usually finish dinner around 9.  But then again that would be an issue even if I weren’t doing the fasting but we will see.

lots of people swear by this not only for the weight loss/ muscle gain but the self healing that it supposedly bolsters.

Only a week in but it’s been a breeze and I have nothing negative to say yet.

12 to 8 is pretty easy. I had a cup of coffee with a little Splenda every morning, tried to stay under 20 grams of carbs a day, and had some sort of snack at 7:55 each night. Sun-thru Thurs only, Friday and Saturday night were bourbon and Coke Zero and pork rinds. Found recipes for low carb pizza crust and pancakes using cream cheese and eggs that helped a lot. And Hardees 1/3 lb Thickburger wrapped in lettuce with mustard, pickle, and cheese are the best thing ever when you want a burger.

To me an 8 hour eating window isn't really a fast, it's just skipping breakfast.  So I'm glad you went to a shorter eating window.

I started intermittent fasting almost 10 years ago, and it honestly reshaped my entire relationship with food ever since.  Like you said, it made me realize I was eating at certain times just because that was the norm.  The idea of skipping lunch was unthinkable before doing IF.  Now I have no issue with it.  Heck, I skipped lunch today for no particular reason.

I come pretty close to a 16/8 simply because I rarely eat breakfast and generally eat a late lunch if I eat lunch at all. The biggest thing I try to do is really watch simple carbs. I don't eat breads, pastas, rices, starchy vegetables, etc.

Most people would be shocked at how much food you have to eat if you really make an effort to stick to lean meats and non-starchy veggies. It takes a poo ton of that type of stuff to add up to 2000 calories. Like gluttonous amounts.

    • I wonder if they'd consider trading Rasheed Walker to a team that needs tackle help but missed out in the draft?
    • LOL. This is such a Panthers fan take.  Anyone who falls to us must suck because some other team didn't take them before.  We got lucky with Lemon, Thieneman, and Freeling all falling to us (honestly any of the three is a A+) but the WR and S positions are much deeper than the LT position in this draft.  We got the LT w/ the most upside at 19.  Mauigoa played RT in college and some think he is a guard in the nfl.  Spano played RT in college and some think he is a guard in the NFL due to short arms.  Blake Miller played RT in college and is not as good as Freeling.  Proctor is a true LT but his ability to handle quick edge's worries me (see Icky).  Freeling is a true LT and a gifted pass protector.  Many think he has a very high ceiling and will benefit from not having to start right away.  This is how you build a franchise.
    • After watching Cam get killed for years behind a bad Oline and having to watch the 2021 and 2023 Olines I will never complain about this team putting resources into that spot.  We got a true LT who could really push Rasheed Walker for the day 1 job. Go back and watch Iceky's draft profile from 2022 and all the talk was Ickey would be an all-pro guard in a zone blocking scheme, but he could play LT in a gap power run scheme. That's why Ickey looked really good when Wilks took over and we just started running gap run plays and just mauled people up front but under Canales we've been more of a zone running team. Ickey can survive at LT with his pass blocking but his true strength will always be his ability to just move guys in the run game and that's a skill set that's better used at guard.  Take another OT later on day 3 to learn from Moton to take over RT in a couple of years and let Walker and Freeling battle it out for the day 1 LT job then next offseason trade one of Hunt of Lewis and let Ickey move inside to guard.
