Since this is so fuging Hard!!

We're keeping Cam how do you rebuild the team around him the next 2 offseasons??

Do you go heavy Defense this offseason  or do you overly hype the offense and go full defense next season?? If you're doing a mix Realistically explained how you do it??

Simple...

Exactly you dont do a long term plan on a wing a prayer that your chronically injured qb returns 100%.  It makes no sense.

Hypothetical.... This more about team building not the QB situation.. "IF" is used way to many time to have a meltdown about the Cam situation.. The point of the thread is to find out what method would you use the next 2 seasons.. Jesus christ read the fuging thread and try to comprehend the point!!

Lol. I know. It’s so hard to have a hypothetical discussion even with tons of good tanking/rebuilding examples like our own 2 SB runs. People get too emotional. I’ve been labeled a racist for saying that I would rather fully rebuild than limp along with Cam. Our talent pool is terrible. Do people really think we can contend in the next 2-3 years? It sucks that Marty, 1 or maybe 2 starters per draft is in control because we’ve lost Peppers, Luke, Greg, Ryan, Norwell and Bradberry the last 3 off-seasons and haven't replaced them and yet people think we’ll be better than the last two seasons? If Cam comes back that’s great but I find it interesting to see what other people would try to do even if Cam stays.

You mention letting go of Cam and getting Lawrence in your first post on this thread, but then say its not about the qb and I need to comprehend the point.  If we tank, its all about getting the qb we want.  May not be the point that you are trying to make, but it is the only point that matters.

If we don't tank, then we use the draft picks to either get more picks, or get best player available, at a position of need.   Or some combination there of.  That is the methodology.

I'm not getting involved with this.. This is not what the thread is about.. Ppl can use any hypothetical they want if it helps them actually do the exercise... If Cam is here ppl should be able to come with a rebuild plan (obviously with less money because after this season you're paying Cam) or without Cam... The question is about direction of the surrounding cast for the next 2 offseason  .

"IF" was the start of those statements.. Making everything after that a hypothetical situation...

Do you not understand what "IF" does when inserted into a statement??

Oh and I'm sorry for Conversation sakes (since we're on a conversation board) maybe elaborate on your plan instead of using general consensus.. Maybe name some players or position that we can Realistically go after...

You get what's happening here??

I like your thoughts. If I was GM, I’d do a few things:

1. Get rid of dead weight. Poe, Wright, Mike Davis and Short are just gone. Don’t care about dead cap because contrary to some posts dead cap doesn’t go away if you keep a player longer. Keeping Short one more year just costs us an extra $14M in 2020 and $28.5M if we keep him both years. He’s not good enough for that money.

2. Don’t sign FAs that cost comp picks. Make sure we max out 2021 comp picks.

3. Agree with @stirs above that if someone offers you a 2021 pick (like 2021 2nd or 2020 3rd) take it. I think 2020 is a solid draft but I’m willing to get more value.

4. It’s unpopular among many but I trade Cam for the highest pick I can get, even if 2021. I want to save the $160M we could save with a rookie QB cap instead of $35M a year over the rebuild.

5. I would absolutely draft a WR and tackle this year due to the depth even early. Okung is a one year deal and I want true BOA/value. No reaches or projects. We aren’t trying to make the playoffs in 2020 or 2021, so we are stacking talent.

6. I’d take Brown or Okudah or Simmons at 7.

7. Extend CMC, Moton and Moore. Still in the fence with Samuel. Maybe extend him now to get him some cash and keep the rate low.

7. Start Grier and take Lawrence in 2021.

8. Profit.

This isn't hard to do..

I think things are set up right now to:

(1) Build a front-7 from scratch with (4) Shaq, Burns, Miller, Haynes as starting pieces

(2) Acquire new weapons (TE, Min. 2 WRs)

(3) Retool the OL (Okung in at LT, add a swing lineman (Adeniji?), FA, and we've got Daley, Moton, Little to figure out)

And I will caution two things:

(1) That our secondary and OL may not be addressed in a long term sense

(2) We have $33 mil in cap consuming past/current/dead money for the LT spot combined for 2020.  Do not expect major moves.  Maybe 1 FA signing that was a good starter in 2019.  2 if we're lucky.

Just depends if this coaching staff and the players they get are a hit year 1.  You never know in the NFL.  I have a good feel about some, meh about others.  Overall, excited for the reboot/retool/rebuild, whatever you want to call it.

I like building the front-7 defense but staying open for weaponry if there's someone too good to pass on.  If this means heavy defensive draft but maybe offense sprinkled in, that's how it shakes out.

FA comes first so I would target a few particular things to create the condition for a building block draft:

-Another offensive lineman.  Likely a swing type but a starter at LG.  Won't be a top one though but hopefully we can find better than GVR.

-A starting caliber CB that is realistic.  I think we're looking more at a Juston Burris type.  Younger, but won't be super pricey.  Could be part of the team long term.

-1 WR to allow for flexibility high in the draft.  Again, we're not going after top guys so I imagine we're looking at a Rashard Higgins type

This would allow us to build the front 7 and not feel things are getting neglected.  We have holes in every facet of the game right now.   I also think we're low key looking at TEs in the draft and hard.  Harrison Bryant & Cole Kmet are the two i love.

This is not that hard to do... We can do this and not argue about the QB situation... THANK YOU DAVOS!!! for wanting to talk football on a football discussion board...

I just try to keep it light hearted but get into the discussion ad much as I can, it makes for fun talk.  Not an expert or anything, get a little madden-y at times, a bit QB centric, but mostly like typing about building a team.  That's all I say as a sidebar. Cheers.

Both him and Justin are 1st round talent along with about 10 WRs that will be primed and ready for #38.  Really think that's how round 2 shakes out barring a move there, although I think you HAVE to keep pick 38 considering the talent in this draft.  I think there's up to 40-45 guys with a first round grade.

You are right--our second rounder will be a better value than the first rounder.

I could see us moving in the third round again.  Maybe that's a trade down for someone's mid/late 3rd + 4th(or)5th.  I think that's my favorite angle for more picks.  I really like staying put in the first two rounds this year.

Unless we can somehow get an extra first through some trade down and trade up magic, I think we can get 2 long term building blocks at a minimum this draft.

So the fug what.. You obviously read the 1st post and Davos didn't seem to have a problem..  But please keep lol because you're so Cam centric now you can't have a football discussion anymore.. Or Titles bother you so much now..
