I feel very lonely as someone not wanting a top 10 DT.....

Do you want a DT at 7, or even in the top 14 if we traded back?

Why is that? Because you don't think it's necessary? Don't think a DT is worth a 1st round pick for us? Or you think there will be better value available?

Personally, I'd have NO problem with Derrick Brown at #7. I'm on the fence about Kinlaw. I kinda think he's boom or bust and I think there are likely to be better options available at other positions.

Honestly, with our issues in the trenches on both sides of the ball, I REALLY want the best lineman on the board be he offensive or defensive.

I'm in the Simmons camp since the Okung trade, I think he's a great prospect and that there's more question marks about Brown than being let on (in the NFL, i doubt he'll be able to bully people entirely off of his sheer strength like he did in college, and I think the agility drills are of concern). I wouldn't hate Brown, i'd just prefer Simmons and Okudah.

I don't think that the positional value is there if we are sitting pat at 7....in this draft.

I don't think that he has the ability to consistently generate pressure on the QB, and if I'm taking a DT in the top 10, at the very least I want that...he is not as good of a player (IMO) as Fletcher Cox, and certainly doesn't have the explosion.

And then we can bring up the likely snap counts for him...as a rook, I would be shocked if he played more than 65% of the defensive snaps, and stayed effective.....and that's just not what I would prefer to do with a top 10 pick.

i'm with you fuzz.   but honestly we have so many needs, and that is one of them so i'm not adamant about it.

If we trade back....say to 15 or later, I would be OK with the DT pick, but not in the top 7, when we have so many needs, especially at more important positions such as CB, OT, QB (possibly), DE, etc....

I'm not one to follow NFL "trends" as closely as some, but going back to the 2012 draft, there have only been 2 (I think) top ten DT's taken, both last season.  (one of them may not play for a while).

Just not sold that DT at 7 is a very smart move, especially when we have glaring holes all over the roster.

I want an OT. Best class in years and something we have sorely missed. No matter who we have at QB, they have to be protected.

I was hoping we could do a trade back with the Raiders for 12 and 19, take Brown/Kinlaw at 12 and Bechton at 19. Doesn't look like that could happen, but I think we need an anchor OL before a DT.

    • Bleacher Report trade and mock has us trading to 9 and picking SG Brayden Burries Charlotte Hornets recieve: Kyrie Irving and No. 9 pick Dallas Mavericks receive: LaMelo Ball, No. 14 pick and No. 18 pick The Hornets just finished their sixth season with Ball. It was only their second with a winning record, their sixth without a playoff trip and the sixth in which someone else paced them in win shares (Kon Knueppel this time around). While they'd surely like to keep building on their second-half momentum, maybe they're just unconvinced that Ball can lead a winning team. Maybe they credit that stretch run less to him and more to the addition of Knueppel, the ascension of Brandon Miller and some out-of-nowhere gains on the defensive end.   Charlotte should be dreaming big right now, and perhaps it believes a steadier hand at point guard is needed to realize that. Or maybe it feels it needs a little more time to bring everything together and thinks that task would be simpler without Ball's money on the books and with a top-10 pick in a loaded draft instead of two selections in the mid-teens.   Either way, this shakeup works. Short-term, a healthy Irving should be far easier to follow than Ball. You may not always know if Irving is playing, but you know what you'll get if he does: elite shotmaking, all-time handles, offensive ingenuity and the ability to work both on and off the ball. He could show this young roster what's required to win for a year or two (he has a $42.4 million player option for 2027-28) or even stick around longer if the partnership proves especially fruitful.   The Hornets also add a building block in Burries, who offers both plug-and-play polish and flashes of shot-creation that hint at star potential. In short, they could better their chances of winning both now and in the future while collecting both the best player in the trade and the highest draft pic
    • I'd hire him in a heartbeat. Hell if he wanted the job, I'd have Canales packing his poo right now and I don't dislike Canales. It's just that firing a 106-58 coach is crazy work. That's a 65% winning percentage. That's the equivalent of averaging 11 wins a season. That's incomprehensible for a fanbase That's never experienced back to back winning seaons.
