Joe Person REPORTS: Panthers will hire assistant GM

Why are we YELLING? But in all seriousness, this is the best case scenarios for us. Hurney’s done some good (and mostly bad) for the team and it’s time to move on.

I’m sure we’ll get a guy who gets picked by Rhule, not unlike what the 49ers did when Shanahan snagged Lynch.

Forget the half steppin'. If the plan is to replace Hurney then replace Hurney. Assistant GM? Anyone worth hiring is going to want a GM role, not a GM in waiting role behind an utter failure.

I doubt it would be immediate in all reality, but definitely no longer than the 2020 season.  As much as I would LOVE an immediate passing of the torch, a newbie GM (at least new to the franchise) will need some temporary training wheels.  That is unless Hurney stays within the organization in a different capacity to help with the transition.

You want Marty Hurney providing those training wheels? A proper hire is ready for the role. He won't need training wheels.

I imagined all along this would be Hurney's last year. Let someone come in and transition it over to them

Problem is we miss out on a lot of better candidates because we’re denied interviews due the fact we aren’t offering them the GM position. This is really the only thing I have a problem with So far in the Tepper era.

it won't happen until after the draft, so by then most of our camp roster will be constructed, save some last minute FAs.  Marty's fingerprints are going to be all over this 2020 roster whether we like it or not.

    • I'm looking at the schedule and I see a 10+win season easy.  I think Carolina goes undefeated in the division.  I also believe that the Bears, Bengals, Lions, Browns, Steelers are very winnable.  Revenge game with phillips and the eagles could be a win.  Honestly only 2 games I see as chalking up a L to off the bat is the Seahawks and Broncos.
    • I guess so. Don't think I was involved with previous discussions.  Tepper is one of the newest owners in the NFL. Dan is going into his 3rd season as a GM - ever. Dave is going into his 3rd season as a HC - ever. Before becoming a HC, he was an OC/playcaller for one season total. Idzik is about to go into his 1st year as a play caller - ever. WRs are rookies, sophomores and 3rd year guys - though the experienced 3rd year guys are XL and Coker (who has missed a ton of games). TEs are guys going into their 2nd and 3rd seasons, and Tommy Tremble - though Sanders has missed a ton of games. QB has played 3 years. Chuba is an experienced RB, but Brooks and Etienne have taken very little snaps at the position. O-line is more experienced vets with some talent - which is HUGE. Need them to stay healthy. I mean the offense is very young in every aspect except O-line. You see it differently?
