3 players we should consider in the first round

#1 Jeff okuduh - he’s a solid lock down corner , something we need desperately in the nfc south . Ron rivera and company never took the corner position serious maybe that can change under rhule .

#2 Derrick brown . Don’t really need to say anything about this guy , he is a bully and he will free up our oline and stuff the run and be a compliment to kk short

#3 isiah Simmons - basically a combo of Shaq Thompson and Thomas davis , he can do it all and will make a huge impact from day one

or we can always trade back and get a lineman and other positions but I don’t think we should waste the #7 draft spot as per previous years a lot of stars were drafted at 7.

positions we should avoid ...

wr- this draft is too deep for wr and it’s easier to find a wr in the late rounds compared to other positions

qb- with the signing of Bridgewater we should not touch any of these qbs , Herbert sucks and has bust written all over him , only decent one Is tua and he most likely won’t be there . Also as bad as Grier was giving him one more chance to learn can be beneficial with joe Brady/ rhules offense.

I get the sense we will go for qb next year. I think the goal would be to have some team looking for a new QB in the mid/late-first, Ala Raiders/Patriots, to trade up should one of the big time QB prospects be available.

I'd switch #2 and #3

I think people place value based on need.  Brown is high on everyone's board because he is a need x 3.  I place value based on the difficulty of the position to fill with a quality player--like QB, DE, or OT.

Simmons is a stud, but OLB is not that hard to find.  That drops him on my board.  (as if I have a board).

Brown plays DT and is a homewrecker, but there are going to be some good DTs in round 2 and 3.

If I really liked Herbert, would I pass on him because we have Bridgewater?  No.  2 QBs is not a problem. 0 QBs is a problem.  It gives you a first rounder next year in a trade while only costing you $25m at the position.  That is about average for QB salaries.  Let's say the top QBs are gone.

I would look to trade back, but if WIlls is there, I take him.  He is an OT, one of the best I have seen in college, if not the best.   He is everything you want in a T--except he plays the wrong side.  I would take him because OT is a very difficult position to fill and it keeps your most important player important.    Pause to think this through:

Even if you base the decision on need, on paper, we do not need a T now.  We have 4.

Little could be a concussion casualty.

Okung is a 31-year old, 1 year contract.

Daley is a sixth rounder who backs up 4 spots--valuable as a backup.

Moton is solid at RT, but is in a contract year.

Draft Wills, move Moton to G and give him a healthy extension.  You are now better at RT, LG.  You allow Little to perfect LT techniques watching Okung for a season.  Daley can back up both Moton and Wills.  That is a solid OL--except for C.

Just a thought--I try to think of things that my "need bias" shades from me.

Okudah just seems too good to pass up if I were the Lions.  Mocks also seem to just defer to Becton or Wirfs for NYG but you never know...

I don't know how I'd rank Simmons, Brown and Jeudy but the potential value added is the most with Simmons.

I absolutely hope that we consider OT prospects at #7. Okung and Moton are both on the final year of their contracts. Okung is also on the wrong side of 30.

You should not expect this to be the case.  I'd love us to as well but all indicators are that we are building the D first and the offense is in stop-gap mode with CMC and Moore leading the unit.  Maybe we get a mid round center or swing lineman.

I think Lions take Okudah at #3 and Gettleman takes Simmons at #4

I think Becton could be DG's love affair this time around.  Jones needs the protection going into year 2 and Gettleman is always a bit kooky with his picks.

We're going to go like this:

1st: DT Brown

2nd: QB Jalen Hurts

3rd: C Hennessy

I take it that you do not see a CB or WR in the top 3 mix?

I have no idea what we are going to do.  I am going with Simmons, as I have for some time.  Brown? Maybe.

Jalen Hurts is not an NFL QB, sorry to break it to you. If you watch what Lincoln Riley did with him was take a lot of low % down field shots to CeeDee Lamb and use him in the run game frequently. His short to mid range completion % was much lower than even guys like Fromm IIRC. He doesn't throw guys open (look at this video by JT O'Sullivan to learn about what I mean). His mechanics are a little wonky. With all that being said, I really like Jalen Hurts as a person and leader. Those traits alone aren't good enough to be a starter in the NFL, however.

    • With the contract money an OT first rounder makes you can ALWAYS get a new girlfriend.  And probably an upgrade at that.  You only got 2 parents.
    • Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.
    • Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
