Who's the villain in the story?

I mean, Tepper can share the blame for how this was executed but Cam was healthy for about six out of 32 games since he became owner.

QB1 was broken by the prior regime.

Fair enough.

I get the feeling a lot of people are livid at Tepper right now, though.

#1 has to be Cam (see what I did there?).  But in the end was anybody really shocked?  Like when Luke retired or 89 was sent packing?  No.

Cam is to blame for expecting the team to jump up and commit to 5 year contract with no on the field proof of his recovery.  He is to blame by not getting back on the field in November when team docs said he was ready and flew to get a third opinion.  One that he could use as needed.   He did not want to jeopardize his new contract/extension by counting on the line that was going to be playing in front of him in Nov/Dec and for a team that had so obviously mailed it in..  So in that regard toss in all the gm's and coaches you want also.

But if you have to absolutely have a villain make it David Tepper.  You know why?  Because he doesn't give a fug what you think.  And that is why I have come to peace with moving on in spite of loving Cam and valuing his play and his efforts in the community and in the locker room.  David Tepper lost faith in Cam and it is David Teppers'  team.  He doesn't have to be patient, he doesn't have to wait for Cam to be healthy.  He saw the commitment wasn't there from Cam in November and he moved on.  Everything since has just been inevitable.

There’s no villain here. Cam’s career was done when Ron was fired. A new HC will bring in his own QB unless that QB is a spring chicken, Tom Brady or Patty Mahomes. Teddy Bridgewater is just a stop gap QB. Based off Rhule’s record, it takes him 3 years to get something going. That’s why Teddy was signed to a 3 year contract. We’ll draft a QB early next year and Teddy will be gone entering his 3rd year of the contract or after.

But, I would definitely Tepper for keeping Hurney on the staffs. Hurney will only slow the process down.

Dave Gettleman - built the rosters that supprted Newton's most successful seasons before Jerry Richardson let him go

LOL

Gave Cam Newton the worst offensive lines and worst starting tackles of any modern franchise QB in the past two decades, leaving him open to multiple concussions and headshots (Byron Bell, Kalil, Remmers, Nate Chandler, etc)

The worst skill position players of any QB in the NFL (best WR Cam ever had was literally Ted Ginn)

But yeah, he really built rosters that supported Cam

I’ll say Tepper

he absolutely should have cleaned house in year two

no excuse

he still keeps hurney ..to you know, take the fall for cams release as others had suggested

for the first time since their existence, and there were some shitty years in that duration, I’m totally apathetic as A psl owner

if he would handle his star this way, I hate to think how he would handle a no one like me. In fact, I think we have already seen it where he put MLS ahead of PSL OWNERS

Tepper can kiss my ass. I had a life before the Panthers and I’ll have one after. Not fun anymore   I paid for those season tickets when I thought Newton was staying.  Silly hopeful me

Which story are we telling?

Why it had to end?

Why the Panthers and Cam don't have a ring?

Why it got so messy?

There is a LOT of blame to go around, and each person on that list may have played a key role in being where we are today, including time, and timing.

Brady would likely have the lowest % of blame.

Tepper and Rivera seem to be the most popular choices.

I think it's a mixed bag with each playing a part.

Ron for having no spine.

JR for only caring about mediocrity.

Marty for being incompetent.

Cam for hiding injuries, delaying surgeries.

Those 4 deserve the most blame.

Then there is DG, Tepper, Brady and Rhule with each a bit of blame as well.
