The market for Newton

Yea, BB saying that, is about the same as Rhule saying what he did about Cam....

Don't believe much you hear around the NFL, and believe nothing in March and April.

Yeah, don't know how seriously to take that.

The team waited until the last minute to even try to trade him, and then waited until all the seats were taken to release him.

Had the Panthers advertised a month ago they were trading him openly... plenty of teams would have stepped up.

no WAY the Colts prefer Rivers over at least trading for Cam pending a physical,.. That’s just one example.

He has been on the market since he was deemed healthy which was roughly a month ago. There were reports he was being shopped in late February but no takers until he was fully healthy. So no,  teams have had plenty of time to trade for Cam and really he has generated little interest. Some team will take a flyer on him I expect. And yeah teams preferred a healthy Rivers over a QB who last played meaningful minutes in 2018.

This goes beyond Cam Newton and I'm a little surprised a lot of you have failed to see the long line of former Panther players who have repeatedly stated how poorly their release from the team was handled. Most recent of which was Greg Olsen.

But when Steve Smith or DeAngelo Williams says something, they're denigrated on this board as sour grapes losers. I sure didn't hear anyone calling out Greg Olsen and the vast majority of Huddlers seem to be standing behind Cam Newton.

It's an interesting dynamic, to say the least.

None, and I mean none of this would be happening if Cam had gotten surgery as soon as possible.

He would have been healthy enough to trade, he would have been healthy enough to work out, he would have been able to show teams that both the foot and the shoulder are healthy.

I tend to agree with this. As a matter of fact, I would be willing to guess Cam Newton might have stayed in Carolina as the starter this coming season had he opted for surgery months earlier, had properly rehabbed and demonstrated his skills before the end of the season.

I thought Cam was holding out in case the Panthers made the playoffs. If that was true, kind of messed up to hold that against him.

I was simply stating that he and his team could meet with any interested front office

You took that to breaking NFL rules

Now you want to make it about physicals

Cool

Here's a thread about a player our team had interest in and signed yesterday

Why would they meet face to face if they’re not doing a physical or other activities to measure interest and fit? If you’re not doing that than a meeting can take place over the phone or Skype ect.

You listed and example of you meeting with clients and tried comparing that to the process of a FA being signed In the nfl, they are not the same by far

Well, remember the foot specialist that used to work for the Panthers was supposed to have concluded that he didn't need surgery.

And then a few months later, surgery.

Clearly there's a lot behind the scenes that we'll never know, but that part still strikes me as weird.

Agreed, very strange.

I think I remember reading somewhere that lis franc injuries can be really hard to both find, and treat....Gates and Olsen had a hell of a time with those similar injuries.

Different GM different scenario. Gettleman was known to be a dick, Hurney was not. In fact he was known for players loving him. So this is different now than it was for Smitty and DeAngelo.

I saw cam with my own eyes. His Arm looked shot. Cam had the strongest arm in the league. People remember how he used to flick it off back foot 60 yards to smith that first game against the packers.

Its not his legs that teams are worried about. Its his arm. That poo didn't look right in game time.

I said it during the 2018 even when they were during okay. That arm did not look right and it didn't look right in the 2 games he played in  the 2019 season.

I'd agree that's a concern. It's been speculated on here that the shoulder might be arthritic.

If that's the case, he may indeed not have much of a career left.

I've thought this since after the first surgery. Hopefully not the case and he recovers fully.
