QB Draft Rankings a Year* Out

There are many roads. Other than Jake or Cam journeyman QB have come and gone leaving us some of the most hopeless bang your head on a wall football. There is nothing for a franchise like drafting a franchise QB. We learned that on Cams journey. Much rather take that chance than watching journeyman QBs for years to come while they figure out, duh, need a real QB.

Nothing in football is more interesting than your starting QB. 14 touchdowns is pedestrian and doesn't capture the interest of a new young hotshot. Herbert, Love, Tua, Burrow all have the ability and we have this Joe Brady guy who's claim to fame is developing Joe Burrow. Why did we hire him? To coach Teddy B? No. To develope a young QB and it's probably not Will Grier.

Those top prospects give you a chance at greatness no less diminished by the next crop coming in next year. People that needed a Mahommes passed on Mahommes. Big mistake.

Burrow's completely off the table. It would cost us picks we don't have. Herbert and Love aren't Mahomes. When I watched Herbert this year, he didn't play like this from Mahomes draft pros:

He's got a great arm, big balls and he's mobile. He is going to drive his head coach crazy for the first couple of years and there is no getting around that. If it clicks for him and he's coachable, I think he could become a special quarterback.

That's not Herbert at all. Herbert was lauded at the Senior Bowl because he got a long with everyone because that was a worry. Did he love the game enough and was he a leader. Love's performance last year was a bit different from Mahomes' junior year. Tua is just tough to call because he had such a severe injury.

Anyway, I get what you are saying. I didn't want to sign Teddy at all. All it does is cost us cap space to rollover and makes our draft picks in 2021 and maybe 2022 worse. We agree on needing a real franchise QB, not Teddy and well I think everyone realizes Grier is poop.

If I were the Panthers I'd go all out. I'd give Ron pretty much anything for that #2 because if Cincy even blinks on Burrow you've got him. Cost would be high, yeah. Rebuild.

IF the rumors are true that New England is moving up for Jordan Love THAT guy should still be on your radar with your #1 pick. Joe Brady activated.

Panthers need one badly and they've got to know that. I hope that was the "plan". Smh

How would you ever know if the rumor is true?

1) You don't just "tank" in just any random year and take the top available QB. "Tanking" only truly works in light of generational type QBs. Andrew Luck was a total tank job for the Colts and it worked out just fine for them.

Regarding the Colts, want that the year Peyton Manning was hurt all year?..

The year they ranked? Correct. Manning didn’t play all year. They went 2-14 due to missing one player. The last year they had Manning they went 10-6. First year with rookie Andrew Luck 11-5.

If you can't get Burrow, I think you have to look at the combined crop of draft-eligible QBs in 2020 and 2021 and rank them out. We have no real shot at competing for a playoff run in 2020 (.500 would be a nice goal), so plan for the long-haul and manage your assets (draft picks, comp picks, cap space) wisely.

IMO, Love goes somewhere just outside of the top-10, and no later than the end of round 1. We would have to trade back into the first round (more than likely 14-25) and give up a few valuable draft picks to get there.

I also believe that 3....maybe 4 QBs in next year's draft are better than, or at least equal to Love as a prospect - Lawrence, Fields, Lance, Newman. Why give up draft picks this year when you can potentially take a better prospect next year? We can barely field a defense and need to draft heavily here. We brought in a talented 27 year old QB, a promising but raw 24 year old QB prospect and might not even have a full season in 2020 due to Covid-19.

I agree that we have so many holes to fill, but some teams are looking to tank. What's up with Jacksonville, it appears they are selling off everyone. Nothing is for sure in getting the QB in next year's draft we dream about so if Tua or Herbert is there we may need to really think about pulling the trigger

Hasn't New England been considered one of the worst drafting teams overall for the past decade? Yeah, they've hit on some picks, but when you stockpile so many over the years, at least a few of those should pan out, right?

Not sure I'd call them an attention-getter when it comes to prospects they might be interested in.

Tom Brady, Matt Castle, Jimmy G those guys were good value.
