One final thing on the Dolphins-Detroit trade situation. I’ve been told tonight by person familiar with what Lions are thinking that they are making plans for having the No. 5 overall selection tomorrow night — Miami’s first scheduled pick of the draft tomorrow.

Yeah, I figured they would to make sure the Chargers didn't get in front of them.

Still think it will be Herbert

From Rapport

Sources: The #Dolphins have called the teams in front of them for a possible trade up from No. 5 and are gauging the price to come up to No. 3 to potentially take an offensive tackle. We could see a run on tackles in the Top 10 like never before.

The Miami Herald reports the Lions are "planning" as if they will have the No. 5 overall pick in tomorrow evening's first round.

Meaning, the Dolphins trade up with the Lions to No. 3 overall, likely to secure a quarterback. After weeks of rumor and misdirection, the Dolphins once again seem most likely to take Alabama's Tua Tagovailoa over Oregon's Justin Herbert, though no one seems to truly know. The Dolphins have played the coronavirus-affected rumor mill to perfection. This will not be the last Dolphins or Tua report you read between now and draft time.

The NFL Network mocked Wirfs to the Dolphins.  Want to get him ahead of Giants.  Does that mean Simmons or Okudah to Giants?

I don't see why they would need to move up to 3 to do that though. I guess they are worried about the Giants taking one. Is there 1 tackle that is head and shoulders above the top 3 or so?

I can see falling in love with Wirfs---Wills, however, is the best T in the draft.

    • He does have speed. 21+ top end speed is very fast for a linebacker and his 3 cone drill time is considered excellent, close to elite.
    • This is awesome because you get to see the perspectives of the scouts--get a glimpse behind the curtain. I wonder whose doing this was; I am curious as to why David Tepper allowed it. Maybe it was his wife. Maybe Dan.  At least from my perspective--and probably one shared by other fans--when David Tepper bought the team, he closed everything off too much to the fans, and really didn't give an explanation. Things were obviously done because he (and/or some others wanted to do it). Remember when they used the guise of construction and all that to keep fans from seeing the team during practice? I know there are laws and safety and all that, but Tepper could've made it happen. And, of course, we all know that they essentially fired Jeremy from his independent contractor gig as a photojournalist. I never understood why they'd do that (and the negative reverberations obviously affected Jeremy and ultimately this place--i.e, us fans). The pie was (and is) certainly big enough to throw some scraps to the independents. I realize that you can't necessarily open the floodgates, but a few different perspectives from indy journalists whether in word or photos is a good thing in my mind.  So, it's great to see different perspectives. I will say this however: it is not without risk, as you know there will be some buster who will be calling the scouts out if the players flop. I think we should all keep in mind that the buck stops with the GM. It's nice to have one, however, that is so convicted in his people and process--and ultimately success, that he's willing to give fans access to this type of information. Pass this on to Tepper.
    • I hope he ends up being our best ever at the position. Ryan Kalil left big shoes behind that we haven't quite been able to fill since.
