What’s his sack # since 2015?

Not really smart to judge a DT based solely upon sacks! Furthermore, the supporting cast and situational awareness still matters, even when judging a player's effectiveness & productivity. He still is on the high end of the curve, notwithstanding sack totals!

Short is a sack guy. He’s not a run stuffer NT like Star or Poe. If you’re scare to answer that question than what’s the sack # for the guys around him? Everyone knows that Short is on a short lease here in Carolina. Fans might not know it but I guarantee that the front office knows. They have said that they went back and look at the defense a couple years back (mainly 2015) to see where the sacks were coming from. And it came from pressure in the interior of the dline (Star). That’s why Brown was the pick.

It will be Tre and potentially Derrick.  Some players can just bring it day and I really think we've got that with Derrick.  We was the biggest D impact player after Young in this draft.  You don't always need to be a vet if you get the respect and have the mentality.  I really think Derrick will have a C on his chest.

Captains are voted from within, this defense is super new and even the signings are young.

Fletcher Cox had a very sharp decline last season but Iggles fans aren't voting him off the island.

I think Short is still effective.  Our run D went from bad to sh*t when he left.  That fact doesn't remove the questionable effort throughout the games and his real hiccup in 2018 but he was always known for that inconsistency even back at Purdue.  I just think he had a really solid peak in his career some years ago.  He seems ready to be a team player for this setup repping the Brown and YGM picks on the socialzweb.

He doesn't have an awful contract considering what recent DTs have gotten so might as well see what he has in these final 2 years.  He has the potential for a modest 3rd contract if he hits a second streak in his career at a much cheaper cost.  He's a quieter guy so this is a ride it out scenario.

You can whine on about a short leash all you like. He's here right now! If we have a season, he'll be an anchor on the line! He's getting up in years, for sure, so quite naturally we're thinking of the day without him. That's just good planning and the nature of the game. But you're the one suggesting that he's a scoffer or JAG, and that's simply untrue! Who the hell do you think was providing most of the pressure? And, of course he's known for his sacks, but he's also known for being solid in the run game! Did you not read what PFF said going into 2019?

"Short is still one of the league’s feared interior pass-rushers and as consistent as they come in the run game."

If we have a 2020 season, Short will anchor the line! If we don't, he may not be a Panther in 2021(depending upon how the NFL negotiates the repercussions of the pandemic). I don't get why that's so hard for you to understand!

Some guys tend to play harder once it get close to the end of their career. Hopefully he’s one of them. Rhule appears to be a coach that can get most out of his guys. Hopefully Rhule can get him to burn some fuel now that we got Brown, Burns and Yetur. If Luke was still playing, I’d be up to keep Short around as one of the building blocks.

Short is a scoffer on a short lease. You got that right. Brown is anchoring the line, not Short! I don’t get why that’s so hard for you to understand!
