Gantt stated on PFT that if the Panthers are already broadcasting this, it's probably going to happen, maybe even already in process.

I'd say he's likely correct.

Yeah, that seems kind of obvious when the organization is the one "reporting" it.

I suppose it isn't a bad way to drum up a little excitement.

He seems like the kind of guy that is destined to be a great defensive coordinator.

Since this news broke, I've been internally debating whether he'd be better as a DC or as a personnel guy. There are pros and cons both ways.

One thing to remember though: As a pro scout, he does a little of both.

Pro scouts don't just check out possible free agency additions. They also scout opponents, study film to look for tendencies and things of that sort.

Obviously, that role plays to Kuechly's biggest strength.

D Coordinator in 2 years

Rhule is pretty strongly tied to Phil Snow. Not sure he'd move on from him unless Snow did it himself.

A career track in personnel might make more sense.

That is, unless Kuechly were to go somewhere else.

    • No one way to do it, it does appear that with the bigger draft picks of the last 5 years…..majority haven’t steered clear of young QBs on the roster being their hopeful guy. Especially past their rookie seasons but even some the biggest ones have had it early.   As far as Andy Dalton, the two young guys he has “mentored”…..have had very rough NFL starts.  Which really ask the why the heck is Dalton here.   He doesn’t really check any box.  No young potential.  Can’t step in and win.  And his mentor track record with Fields and now Bryce is bad
    • I had thought the Panthers might let him play out his contract this year and hope he stays healthy. If not draft a left tackle and move Ekwonu to right tackle.
    • Frankly, if most teams in the NFL lose their starting QB for a significant amount of time, they're screwed. The fantasy is that one has a future Tony Romo or a Nick Foles that can carry a stacked team. The reality is that you might get roughly 3~5 games out of your backup before it all falls apart. Remember all of Peyton Manning's backups? Utterly terrible. Speaking of backup QB's, Raiders may need one. https://www.nfl.com/news/raiders-qb-aidan-o-connell-suffered-fractured-wrist-in-preseason-finale-expected-to-be-out-6-8-weeks
