NFL owners approved a plan to cover the rows of seats closest to the playing field with tarps on Thursday and one team has started working to take care of the season ticket holders who usually fill those seats.

Saints vice president of communications Greg Bensel issued a statement outlining how the team plans to proceed with those customers this fall.

“Based on the NFL meeting today, it will be mandated that stadiums cover the first eight rows in the stadiums,” Bensel said, via Sean Fazende of FOX8. “This covering is being done for health and safety of players, staff, employees, fans and broadcasters. We are already in the process of working with and reaching out to our season ticket holders making it a priority to accommodate and relocate them. We will also offer them a number of options for the 2020 season including a refund or credit and it will not impact their season ticket holder status moving forward.”

Bensel added that any procedures for shifting seats would be revisited for the postseason.

In addition to providing spacing that can help on the health and safety front, the tarps can also carry ads that would presumably make up for some of the lost revenue from ticket sales this year.

It is a good idea. Those first 8 rows have a horrible view f the field from behind the bench anyways.

I hope I get to shoot the games this year, but that is doubtful at this point. I can't see them wanting very many people there that are non essential.

Soooo .. exactly how would the fan seating work??

1 fan every two seats with a mandated mask??? Surely, they wouldn't have a stadium - full of fans on top of one another + the drinking and fan interaction with each other. Also, getting into the stadium...the crowds...idunno, tough decisions to be made.

One thing that would help would be the open dome stadiums on hot days at 1 p.m.....where the UV rays (not temp) could potentially kill/slow the the transmission of the virus in the air.

The 8 rows back idea, I think is a good start.

Because evidently fug everyone else. Just make sure you keep buying those tickets. Stay the fug away from all of us that are here working, but being a paying customer makes you immune to this virus.

I'm not sure if the NFL comprehends how idiotic this makes them look. Clearly acknowledging the problem at hand for themselves while ignoring the problem when it comes to potentially getting in the way of key revenue streams.

You could sell four seats to one party then separate 2 seats etc etc. You don't have to separate parties (see food places).

Even with this ... it's far from the same gameday atmosphere but a feasible alternative. Interested in seeing how this plays out.

They are just doing the most American than possible. Caring primarily about themselves and their bottom line while not giving a fug about anyone else.

Welcome to the American Dream. It has literally always been this way.

It's pretty interesting that several NFL teams have already provided multiple options to their fan base such as a full refund, payment forwarded to next years tickets, etc. The Panthers haven't told us much of anything besides the recent email that came out and it doesn't really tell us anything. I wonder if this is just poorly managed by Tepper or an attempt to hold our money as long as possible

Will it be a Panthers decision or NFL decision do you think?
