Kirk Cousins on COVID: "If I die, I die."

Stfu my uncle died of covid last week. He was nowhere close to death.

Very sorry for your loss.  I am appalled at how many people are so callous to the death of 185,000+ Americans.  All those people have families and friends who loved and valued them. People who view the tragic loss of life as insignificant share that trait with a horrific group in history.

My sincere condolences on your uncle's death.

Why exactly should they be grateful? We sit here and watch other countries get their outbreaks under control while people here bitch and moan about a piece of fabric around their mouths. This attitude has led to us being the country with the most deaths and many (including quite possibly this person’s uncle) could have been avoided if we simply showed a little compassion. No one should be grateful or satisfied with the way things are. We should expect better...

The mask did not get any countries under control, the only country in the world that has it under control is China who told their citizens, "Shut the Fudge up and stay in your houses until told to leave, or be shot."

Masks work for 1-2 hours before the crap it filters from the air saturates it and has you breathing worse crap then Covid... Why do you think we used to get masks disposable (N95 or Medical) before this pandemic?

Can you explain to me why the hell the government didn't force every company in the world to manufacture N95 masks as opposed to these piece of $hit cloth masks that people don't wash but once a week?

If every citizen wears an N95 (Even the anti-maskers agree they work), this ends in 3 months, but apparently we spent all our money producing 100 million vaccines in 6 candidates...

Okay, obviously you know poo about dick if you think China is the only country that has COVID under control. They did, by far, the best early on, considering the outbreak was discovered in their borders, but they are not the only country to have controlled COVID.

You or others can scoff at that all you want but I promise you that no one who has lived outside the privileged borders of the US for an extended amount of time would disagree with this.

No one, eh? Are you so sure?

None of my friends from other countries understand the insanity with anti mask bullshit...  It seems that one thing the privileged borders of the US grant is a level of selfishness rarely seen outsde it amongst anything close to our degree of development. It allows us to, for instance, argue that our freedoms are at risk during a global health disaster to avoid a bit of personal inconvenience. Truly priveleged, I agree.

Like I said, I can personally set aside the inconvenience for the potential wellbeing of others. But I’m also not going to simplify the scenario and call skepticism to government mandates “selfish.” Not sure where your friends are from but we can both agree that every one of us is privileged to live here currently.

The only country that has it under control is China? It was hard to keep reading after that comment... South Korea, New Zealand, Germany and many more. It’s like the US and Brazil that can’t figure it out. They are all doing contact tracing, social distancing and wearing (mostly cloth) masks. I mean we are literally watching what works in other places and are refusing to do the same.

While I generally try to think of other individuals as myself and protect them from potential harm, especially as a a healthcare provider, I also sympathize with individuals who do not want their liberties taken away and understand the premise that taking an inch often can lead to a mile. You or others can scoff at that all you want but I promise you that no one who has lived outside the privileged borders of the US for an extended amount of time would disagree with this.

I was using Nancy as an example of the far left, not Biden as she’s the one who has been the most vocal on the topic and ironically doesn’t follow her own advocation.

The United States more than any country in the world values preservation of individual liberties over the greater good. It's basically the very mantra this country lives by. It's why we celebrate Bezos being able to make $1 million every few minutes off just the interest he makes from banks while millions of people can't afford health care or feed their children. We are literally one of the only countries in the world that doesn't guarantee health care. I'm not going to sit here and debate the merits of that, just starting a fact. The fact that you think people in other countries are more resistant to accepting government mandates in the interest of the common good is laugable.

Also in what bizarro world is Nancy Pelosi far left? She's barely a real democrat. The Republican party has transformed so much that literally not being a white nationalist is considered left extremist. The propaganda painting people like Pelosi and Biden as far left socialist extremists is hilarious to me; they'd be considered almost hardline conservatives in most of Europe. But that's politics for you.

Reading comprehension. Never said or inferred  this.

Sometimes the concept of the “greater good” falls extremely short of the reality of what it actually means for society as a whole. Not going to squabble over semantics but a little research and conversations with those not from your back yard will give you some perspective on why they consider living here now a blessing.

Your statements seem overly universal and vague for me to follow. Can you specify which countries you know people from who actually share this sentiment? Your words imply the US as this beacon of salvation against the rest of the world mired in government overreach. Surely not everyone who moved to the US from another country fears having to give an inch. North Korea maybe? My family immigrated from another country. They don't share your rhetoric. The vast majority of them are far more likely to criticize those who refuse to wear masks than criticize the mandates themselves.

Let's be honest with ourselves. The people on tv, in your facebook feeds, etc criticizing mask mandates, are they mainly people from other countries warning us the risks of a government mandate or are they predominantly the ultra conservative Trump supporting contingent?
