Impact of no preseason games

NAS

Recommended Posts

As teams make their final cuts, it will be more difficult for teams to sign players who were released or placed on practice squad due to lack of preseason games. I think this hurts the Panthers more than most because our team is desperate for depth, especially on defense and special teams.

I think teams should have been given a two week extension to finalize a 53 man roster and use the first two regular season games as additional opportunities for player evaluation

Basing a roster off of practice production scares the hell out of me. Preseason games are not regular season games but at least the roster evaluation from in-game situations and against another team is a huge loss IMO. For a new and unproven staff this could be a hell of a handicap.

Edit: Also giving the new staff a couple of trial runs before being in a regular season game would have been a huge positive.

We are getting a bigger handicap than most because of the new coaching staff. At the same time, our depth was probably always going to be shaky given the amount of roster turnover.

Not just who makes the roster but how they are used and where they play. We had a joint practice and preseason last year and we still started Williams week one. That was an avoidable mistake. This year? Who knows, like literally who could know. I completely agree about the depth but starting week 1 without preseason games and a new staff? This could have the makings of a clusterfug.

Yeah, I wouldn't expect to see a win for at least the first 4-6 games. But, we kind of knew that was a possibility even without the loss of preseason games. I just hope we see the coaches and players not look lost. Other than that, I am pretty much expecting the worst.

The Raiders could drop a win in our lap but yeah, I agree.

Also, think about all the overreacting on this board we have missed out on from not having preseason. If the team looked good, some would have been predicting playoffs by now while others would have screamed that preseason does not matter

    • Well there goes the bullied victim spiel.
    • Not sure who said it first, but Tepper is the correct answer. Still, I'm gonna go with Kasay keeping it inbounds. If, you subscribe to the butterfly effect version of time travel consequences.... When we win SBXXXVIII everybody's lives change: Moose never breaks his leg, We win it all again in 05. Tommy Jone is unknown and Peppers stays home, Champs once more 2008. No artificial pig heart turning JR into a creepy weirdo, no lockout, no Clausen. Fox and Jake ride off into the sunset on their own terms. No 2-14, no #1 pick. But, no laptop, no Blinn, 3 years behind The Golden Calf of Bristol, we still get Cam. JR let's him grow his locs like he always wanted, Smitty sees Cam in a new light. Dreads swinging, (and Smitty with his 3 Lombardis behind him) Cam is old enough to get those calls. No Manning narrative, Cotchery TD, PI against Talib on Philly Brown, 10,000 RTP calls and Kony Ealy SB50 MVP. No Jeans Fridays, no Tepper. KB doesn't slip on his own meatsweat mid-route in SD, Cam becomes the 1st QB to win 10 straight SBs.
