I hope to see the same trajectory that Rhule had at Temple and Baylor. 1st year the losses pile ,up as the foundation gets built. 2nd year is roughly .500 as the pieces get put into place. In the 3rd year you're ready to win for real.

100%. That’s what I was hoping for, not hoping we could get to 6-10 or 7-9 year 1. I mean with Brady and Brees having 1-2 years left and Ryan getting close to 40, we had a great chance to use 2020 and 2021 to build up as many draft picks and cap rollover as we could while getting a franchise QB in a great draft for it. Could have set us up to own the division for a decade like the Pats. The FAs we could have signed in 2022 with $90 million in cap rollover instead of Teddy and Short would have been game changing. Like the Chiefs being able to sign their weapons (Moore and CMC) and go for broke with Alexander, Mathieu and others.

Meh, he was just plain bad. What’s the difference between Allen starting a game in 2018 and Grier starting two in 2019? I know Allen fell apart, although when your LT gives up 14 pressures and 3 sacks in 1 game it’s not surprising, but it was night and day between him and Grier. Even when Allen came into the NO game last year after Grier he looked 10x better. That’s not anything about Allen, more about how absolutely awful Grier looked after a full offseason and 15 weeks of practice.

Maybe he will improve, but I’m not going off no pressure/hit practice with no preseason to review. I still think we are bottom of the barrel if Teddy gets hurt.

He did not expect to play.  He was the scout team QB all year.  But an athlete knows that preparation and mental toughness are required when the opportunity presents itself.  I get the impression that he is a spoiled athlete, one that always got what he wanted and started despite his shortcomings.  So now, he is experiencing humility for the first time.  Let's see if his reflection time works.

Even with Bridgewater, a successful season is not likely--so this season should be about growth and development.

Sure, he was just plain bad but he was also put in a terrible situation.

I'm not all that down on Allen. I think he could carve out a nice career as a good backup.

Allen nearly willed us to a win in that GB game in the snow. That was very impressive.

Huh? They benched Allen and we knew before the week that Grier was starting the last two games. It wasn’t a surprise to anyone that Grier was starting. He had as much prep as Allen did the last week in 2018. Don’t forget that Allen started in 2019 after Newton was ruled out. Same scenario as Grier starting twice. I know the fluff piece on Grier this off season said he wasn’t prepared but again it wasn’t like he came in after the first series. He was named the starter for the week before the game.

I’ll just say that I don’t believe the fluff until I see it in game. He looked that bad to me. If we had preseason games, I might think differently but such is this year.

Agreed. I guess that’s the thing. Even in the NO game where Grier got hurt, Allen came in and was competent. In watching both play, I’d definitely be way more up on Allen’s chances to carve out a career.

Good for Efe. Eli, we hardly knew ya.

Has he been banged up all preseason? I was just checking and he had to get carted off the field due to an ankle injury in his last game last year. I really hope we didn't spend another few million on a injured player and get nothing out of him. I wonder if the Raiders backed out of their deal with him due to ankle concerns. Maybe he was healthy, I haven't been following him on that because I didn't realize his season ended due to an ankle injury.
