Teddy Bridgewater suggests using the opposite of Rivera mentality

Teddy Bridgewater said this about the loss to the Raiders.

"We've just got to approach each snap as if we're down 14 points, 21 points," Bridgewater said. "As you watch the game, we were down two scores, and no one panicked, and there was more of a sense of urgency. So I think if we can start every drive with that sense of urgency, there will be more positive plays and less negative plays."

 

This is different. Always playing with a sense of urgency is something we have not seen in a long as time in Carolina. Rivera's team down by 14 with two minutes to go rarely showed real urgency. 

What Teddy is suggesting here is that perhaps even if it is tied or you have the lead it is the urgent business of the offense to score again. Weird huh?

yep, i got mad at the end of the game and didn't feel like talking about it but for a first year coach, new oc, dc, qb... i thought we looked and operated like a football team.   didn't always play like one, which is understandable right now - but it really showcased just how bad ron and staff were at all that and how use to it we had become

It can happen in today's NFL. The Niners had a 10 point lead with 8 minutes to go in last years' Super Bowl. The only safe approach is to always be looking for more points.

He modeled us after Pittsburgh and they have been that way traditionally. He forgot to model us after their front office. Their ability to evaluate talent is second to none.

The worst part was under River we had the QB to execute this type of philosophy, to always keep the pressure on, that in and of itself helps your defense by making the other team one dimensional. Think back to the Peyton Manning era with the Colts, they scored so much their defense didn't even have to play the run after the first quarter.

I'm not saying we possess that level of talent, however outside of what 5-7 QBs honestly Teddy is above average, and our top 3 WR + HB is as good as any in the NFL save the Chiefs arsenal perhaps. 

I never thought offense was gonna be an issue for us this season, dropping 30 Week 1 with all things considered impressed me.

      He's handing off play calling duties to fuging Brad Idzik as well so, either that mouth breather can run the playbook and Canales can grow as an all around head coach or it will be a horrible decision and both of them and BY can screw off. I'm fine with that as long as it isn't just another excuse for BY to get another year with another coach worthy of working around his limitations as a qb.

      I understand why people say things like it could be worse in relation to Tepper but it just doesn't jive for me. Are the optics bad? Yes. Would I want her to be the owner of my team? No. But I mean she's only been owner for a year and the Colts overall are a better run organization. As far as I know they've also never had the distinction of having the worst win percentage in all of professional sports either. Tepper has owned this team for 8 years and about the only thing that has been consistent has been the ability to continue to find different ways to achieve new lows. Even now people are saying things are different yada yada but we said these same things at certain points under Rhule Fitterer and Reich. I'm going to wait to see how the rubber meets the road this upcoming season before I make any strong conclusions about anything in relation to the longevity under this franchise going forward.
