Why are we not talking about a possible next GM?

Hurney is eternal, but his contract is set to expire after this season. I know he has top level blackmail, but it seems kind of odd that he hasn't been resigned. Will Tepper do the right thing for once?

does expire mean the same thing as interim?

If you want to talk candidates, my favorites are Saints Assistant GM Jeff Ireland and Pro Personnel Director Terry Fontenot.

Serious candidates with former Panther connections are Seahawks Co-Director of Pro Personnel Trent Kirchner and Titans Vice President of Player Personnel Ryan Cowden. And of course, there's the possible option of Kevin Colbert if that pans out.

But right now, I'd probably say the clubhouse favorite is in-house candidate Pat Stewart. He doesn't necessarily have the kind of resumé some of the other candidates have, but he's got something that might be more important. Specifically, a connection to Matt Rhule. He and Rhule were together at both Temple and Western Carolina for the 2005 and 2006 seasons.

If I were a betting man, I'd put my money on Stewart.

(Captain Picard jokes... engage)

You always bring good information when this topic gets brought up, but its a total new game now. The first half is tied to old ownership and other people that are no longer here. Herniay is all thats leftd(how on earth did that happen?!?!?). We do not know how Rhules and Tepper relationship is since he signed that insane contract. Rhule looks beat and seems over-worked dealing with all the BS of being the panthers HC. I know just about daily he reports to Tepper and its not "Hi, all is fine, bye" either.

65 million is nothing to Tepper, I believe its very hard to get a handle on all this mess. Rhule should at least get another full year before we have some ideas of where this is going. Hes got a nice list of contracts for being form Temple and Baylor, hes like Herniay in a way.....Great selling himself to powerful people.

There being new ownership is a big reason why I think a guy like Stewart could have an advantage over guys like Kirchner and Cowden, even though they have better resumés.

That potentially flips if Marty has any input on who the next GM should be.

What's the point? We're not Cleveland, Detroit, etc. Getting a "better" GM won't turn us into NE. Hurney is here for a while. His previous dismissal was pure scapegoat material. I mean, how many "elite" GMs are out there anyway?

Right now compared to Hurney?  31

They did hire one form the steelers Oham(sp?) cap guy. They tired like hell to get a interview Andrew Berry, whom leftd the eagles to become browns GM. They wanted another Billy Beane it seemed and got nothing. That was hope at least about replacing Herniay, being they wanted a asst GM type role. I mean, this is painful to type.... I understand and agree when tepper brought the team it was terrible timing to hire a whole new staff. Talking all new staff, soup to nuts. He kept Herniay and got buttered up by him. Just once he made the choice to move on form Ron, 100% Herniay should have been gone too.

I will say this- Pat stewart is not alone. Bill Bellicheat may have a bad coaching tree, its the opposite for personal types. I believe 5 former pats are GMs and many many other have high ranking jobs among the other 31 teams. Pat Stewart cut his teeth with Bill. Ive also heard Bills secret to this success, its just hard working for long hours....thats all. No magic, just grind and grind. Heard a few that work for him say they couldnt wait to learn his secrets and came away with finding out theres not any.

I tried to narrow it down to five external candidates to fill the GM position with the panthers hopefully at the end of the season. IMO but it was to hard.

This list is in no particular order:

Ed Dodds; Trent Kirchner; Lake Dawson; Andy Weidl; Joe Schoen; Adam Peters; and Omar Khan!

Another top candidate is: Terry Fontenot; if you could get him away from the New Orleans Saints!

Internal Candidates:

Jeff Morrow & Pat Stewart (but truly needs more experience working in front office).
