Teddy 5th best in pressure %

Teddy is currently at a 15.4% pressure rate this season, which puts him in at 5th best. This puts him in the same cohort of some really good QBs in Brady, Rivers, Rodgers, and Brees who all boast a 13.9% pressure rate or better.

Teddy’s release/wind up isn’t necessarily the fastest or tightest. Our line isn’t necessarily the best grades pass blockers in recent memory. We are in the bottom third of the league using play action. We’re not lighting up the league in rushing. So what’s the cause of this low pressure rating?

Joe Brady. Brady has the Panthers use more west coast passing concepts than I have seen since Cam was drafted. For those unfamiliar, the WCO is about ball control through “extended handoffs,” a euphemism for shorter passes.  This allows you to get the ball out quickly and put the ball in the hands of your best playmakers. The passes are predicated on easy and quick to read progressions that have blitz alerts built in them.

What this results in are high passing yards, high completion %, an efficient passing attack and best of all, low pressure rating. So next time you want to complain that Teddy doesn’t throw the ball deep (he does) or we throw the ball too much (we don’t) just remember all the years we’ve run run punt or given up a huge sack on 2nd and short. Remember the times you’ve heard “it is what it is” and “missed opportunities” and know that our young offensive coordinator is just firing up and is only going to improve as the year continues.

I was looking at this stat earlier.  When you see it you think the line must be giving him time to throw, but we have one of the worst pocket times in the NFL at 2.3.  So it must be Teddy getting rid of the ball quickly.

which explains his dinking and dunking that he gets so much crap about. Teddy can't throw long....because he doesn't have time to.

Teddy has been a solid middle tier QB this season, which is good enough to win some games. The only people in the entire NFL fan base that rag on Teddy are the scorned lovers.

Teddy is the kind of QB that could win you a Super bowl with an opportunistic defense. Look at how the team won their first game - defense was forcing turnovers. The offense didn’t capitalize on the opportunities with TDs, but that’s the formula for winning games with Teddy at QB

    • Well yeah. Last time vs NO if we had had good QB play and half ass pass pro it is a different game. And that is the story more often, in point of fact, than the two or three hero games everyone wants to use to define the player.  That box was so stacked against the run it was basically impossible to break through it, you had to go over and around. It is what we knew was gonna be employed by teams and we were unable to stop them from doing it.    I am real interested to see the first 3rd and 8 and see how NO defenses it in the back end. Because they can look at that Rams tape and learn, but will they have enough fear/respect that it can happen to them or will we need to prove it again before they do?   Most people don’t learn from others’ mistakes and  need to make their own.
    • I like that Tillis is so down to earth  we will see where it goes ill say something controversial on a day that, along with next week, determines the panthers 2025  and 2026 fate  he referenced ‘money ball’, statistics and self scouting multiple times. it really makes me feel that Bryce will be back regardless of what happens over the next 4 games as that is the smart move for financial stability but by no means does that guarantee Bryce anything past that.  They will improve year over year regardless of position or who is affected       however, they will do the appropriate diligence and not cut off their nose to spite their face….it won’t be an emotional decision…unlike us Huddlers….for example, if Young’s happy ass shits the bed today, I’ll be less than pleased ..particularly having seen what they will do and having a bye week.  Brandon Staley is a good defensive coordinator and former HC.  His defense is aging but he can still develop a good game plan
    • Something like 24 now. The first 6 minutes were fun, after that, oh man. It was cool tho, a near capacity, with both teams well supported.
