Playing with the calculator on OTC, before this move even hits...

  • Brees as a June 1st cut (retire)
  • Cut Michael Thomas (June 1st - only way to save them money really, but it'll be a trade)
  • Terron Armstead (Cut)
  • Taysom Hill (Cut)
  • Janoris Jenkins (Cut)
  • Ramcyzk (Trade)
  • Lattimore (Trade)
  • Emmanuel Sanders (Cut)

And none of their pending FAs signed...they're still 14 million over the cap. BEFORE this Kwon contract hits.

How does this work? Like I have no idea... If next year they are $50 mil over the cap does the NFL just not let them play certain players? Can't play games and have to forfeit until they're under the cap? Like what happens if they role into week 1 $50 mil over?

It can be done with minimal cuts. It just requires a LOT of contract restructures. I think I counted 10 when I did it then either trades or extensions for Ramczyk and Lattimore.

Lol. So, lose Brees, restructure a DE (who will be 32 before next year) on pace for his worst year since 2011, restructure Thomas’ huge deal with 4 years left (without Brees) and sign a bunch of long term high dollar deals and they’re still $28M over the cap. Right. Sounds like a plan for years of hell without a QB.

Also, how does Armstead get restructured when 2021 is the last year of his contract? I guess they’ll be adding more years.

They are going for it, got to respect their GM with handling duties.

I mean who would you rarther have WHitehead or ALexander?? Yea thought so...

The cap is 100 over, but Mickey has proven to master this. A couple simple moves gets it waaay down- Brees retires- takes 22 million off. Extend or trade lattimore/Ram. Add years to Jordan&Armstead. Cut Jenkins, Alexander, Brown, and Easton.

Thats alone gets close to "only" 20 over.

Restructuring that many contracts is suicide to the future of the team... kicking the can with restructures is what got them to 100 million over next seasons cap, this is an all in move they know change is coming next season.

I don’t think they care. They will just eat a dead money year whenever Brees retires then reset and rebuild.

Your literally talking about kicking the can again to the point were the entire sallary cap would he dead money. All a restructure does is convert a season salary to a guarenteed bonus spreading the cap hit over the length of the contract.

I have a feeling Ramczyk will be one of the odd men out of NO soon, his play has slipped a bit recently (though he's still been great) and they've done a pretty good job of developing OL and may view him as replaceable. If he were to hit FA at some point, I'd love to target him. Was a huge fan of him going into the draft that year, and he's been an absolute mauler in both the run and pass games. He's been the RT in NO, but I think he could play the left side and be a long term solution there for us. Though it's possible they do keep him or if not, they trade him so NFCS rivals can't sign him...

Ram is 1000% getting extended.
