If I remember correctly, we've only used a first round pick on a left tackle twice. Once was Gross with a top 10 pick, and the other was Blake Brockermeyer who was taken in the first round (I forget which pick but I never found him more than average).

The most successful LTs we've had outside of that would be Todd Steussie and Michael Oher, both free agents. Steussie was decent but not necessarily special and was nicknamed "first and 15" by his teammates for good reason. Oher was pretty good but didn't last long.

Gross was viewed strickly as a RT until his second contract on top of that.

Said it elsewhere, but I think seeing that it didn't take Matt Rhule the better part of a season to figure out that Greg Little wasn't getting it done is kind of encouraging to me.

Ron Rivera probably would have left him in there for the rest of the season and defended his performance.

Rhule came one year too late. I have no doubt we don’t draft Little last year if he’s here.
